I don't think it's about lightening up as much as it is being ignorant and/or well-rounded.

The pronunciation is what I use, but only after some strict training by my girlfirend. I used to constantly say Porsh. Then after she kept rolling here eyes I started working on "porsha". Now I constantly correct my friends.

As with most words, it depends on your local dialect and when the word entered common use in your languge/region. Pronounciation of a word changes between languages and again over time (watching any film/tv from the war/post-war era shows just how much American and British English have changed in ~50 years! Both our versions of the same language from that time sound so funny now!), so unless you're speaking german at the time, then it's unlikely that the word is going to sound the same.

Back to Porsch/Porsche/Porscha/Porschuh... who really cares that much to try to correct someone who pronounces it differently? IMO, the kind of person who does that is also the type of person which gives non-Porsche owners the impression that all of us are ******.

totally agree with you. I was born in Munich and can pronounce Porsche with the best of them. Since I cannot bring myself to pronounce it any other way, I usually don't say it at all. I don't say BWvee either. Correcting others is not my style, unless they ask.

In French it is pronounced Poorrrrsch
In German it is Por-sche
So I'm not voting unless I can vote for both.

In English it is anything, depending on who says it first...!!!
In American - anything goes because you break most spelling rules.

and if you're so short on entertainment to correct people on this you don't deserve to have one.

That one word, cryptic post, that read "Enzo" made me think about Ferrari.

Perhaps it's not just a question of where you are, but what language you are speaking.

Do we pronounce Ferrari with an Italian accent? What do we do with words from a foreign language that become anglocized, and is Porsche one of those words? Maybe proper nouns are different than other words in this regard.

I've always pronounced the "e" on the end, with most of the voters, but have come to feel a little self conscious about it since getting my own Porsch-e. : / Concerned that it comes across as an affectation, to those who don't have one of their own.

Yes, it seemed like a straight forward question, but it's raising some interesting issues.

I say we consult a linguist. Any linguists among us?

I think we'll need a cunning linguist to get this straightened out.

If you're really a stickler for authentic German, you should pronounce Mercedes "mare-TSAY-dess" and BMW "bay-em-vay" ....

I pronounce those marques the American way ... but I still say "porsha."

PS: Yes, I speak German.

My flat mate is American and pronounces it porsh'a'. I'm English and in my head I pronounce it Porsch, I almost never say it though. I'll either refer to it as the Porka or the 911 depending on who I'm speaking too.

Interesting to see the amount of passion some folks have about this. To the poster who says we don't deserve to drive one we don't pronounce the name properly... my humblest apologies, I'll sell mine tomorrow and by a Jagwaaaar.

I'd be intrigued to see the results of the poll plotted by geographical location. I would be surprised if there wasn't a link between location and pronunciation.

...Nick,

I hope you're not misquoting me !!
I said "if you're so short on entertainment to correct people on this you don't deserve to have one" !!!

If you refuse to be wound up and say whatever you want, you can have two,
........................................................and a sticker that says "my other car is a Porsche"
