Of all the Porsches that I have owned as well as driven, the 928 is far far superior to them all, a true supercar.

I have driven a 928 also But compared to a 993TT its like driving a Lincoln town car. Very relaxing, like sitting in your living room. super car is not what crossed my mind -super couch was more like it. A very fast couch mind you. but very luxurious.
When the turbos kick in on the TT and you go screaming by a Viper- Supercar is something I think about.

I sat in a 928, and I have to agree, the seat was so soft and comfy I felt like having a pillow fight.

Hey the 928 was brought on to replace the 911 as the flagship model for Porsche. This was a task that it failed miserably at.
That's funny. It was Porsche that called the 928 their "flagship" at the time - so I guess it succeeded in that task after all, at least according to the people who knew both cars inside and out - Porsche. If you claim it "failed miserably" because it didn't replace the 911 then blame the Porsche marketing department not the engineers or the cars.

Further, just because a car has been discontinued doesn't mean it is any less of a car - I don't see Porsche building any 356's today either but I still love them. In any case, current 996's are a far cry from the original 911's and they now have many of the features and "comforts" that the 928 introduced into the Porsche line.

This poll was for "best Porsche" - a subjective opinion poll, at best. No need to start getting defensive, 911 owners, just because the 928 is getting votes. Just sing the praises of your own car and leave out the negative comparisons.

Nobody was being defensive. I just said I didnt agree Plus I said it with a smile on my face. Friendly interfamily jousting as it were. as far as marketing, its the customers and the product that ultimately determine the outcome or success of a particluar product.
The 928 had a ton of history in its builders corner. Porsche did not have to do alot of marketing for any of its products. The 928 was a vast departure from what Porsche had done before. It was more of a Grand touring car and less of a sports car ala BMW. And you are totally correct in your assesment of the 996 also. I like the 928. it has a niche all its own. But when I think PORSCHE there is only one thing that comes to mind initially and that has been true since I was 10 years old.....911.

That is true - not just for you but for most of the world. The 911 and Porsche are synonymous in most people's minds. I wish nothing more than to see the 911 continue on forever. We just need to get Porsche to re-introduce a new front-engine, water-cooled, V8, GT type car - a new 928! Then let the debate start all over again - just like it did 20 years ago. (They do say the 80's are making a comeback. )

FLott I think its coming! I have heard rumors of the front engined V8. But I dont know what or when. It would be a natural evolution of the Cayenne V8.

I don't want to hijack but we (the 928 board) have heard the rumors as well. It makes economical sense to put that V8 to other uses (especially the turbocharged version). However, I doubt it will come in the form of a sports car - sports sedan is more likely - and it probably will not carry the 928 designation. But we can always hope . . .

Now as to the thread, where are all the other rennlisters?? Vote early and vote often!

Maybe this thread should be renamed to match the voting:
What is your Favorite Porsche
instead of:
Best Porsche Ever....

Best Porsche versus Favorite Porsche?/ Two totally different things IMHO

They are ALL GREAT!!!!

JoAnne

PS: I have three favorites:
All the 356 models with the B being my least favorite
1997-98 993's
917-30 (my dream ride, but I bet I'd wet the seat!!!)

Has to be a Carrera GT.

I mean isn't that a dream car for each and every one of us?

928- very fast, very comfortable, rock solid stable at any speed, power everything, big and heavy. Sounds like Porsche did relaunch it. They just added two doors and are now calling it the Cayenne Turbo!

Seriously, the 928 is a great car but it isn't a sports car. Heck the 911 is not really a sports car either, they both have 4 seats! The only sports cars Porsche has produced is the 914 and Boxster!

My vote for Best Porsche ever would go to the 959. It was literally, a decade ahead of it's time. My favorite Porsche is the 993 TT.

Aren't sports cars? Although I respect your comment, I beg to differ

50/50 weight distribution - a killer stance - a V8 rumble - comes in either 16v 2 cams or 32v 4 cam. 4 piston brake calipers - ................

Check Out Mark Anderson's ride (The white one) Dunno who owns the other

Thats a wicked 928 that hangs w/the big boys of mucho $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Regardless - Porsches are cool no matter which one you drive!
