The guys on the 944 board can't have seen this poll - they'd have swamped everyone by now...

This might sound weird, but I think the 928 is the best car that Porsche ever made, and the Carrera 4S models are the best "typical" Porsches ever made (in a sense of the brand image Porsche represents).

Now, of course I am biased - I own a 928 BECAUSE it had always been my dream. That does not mean I don't like or appreciate other Porsches. Gosh, I would have a really hard time sorting them by preference!

Here are a few that I find particularly exciting, in no specific order (please don't take offense, if yours is not mentioned - as I said, I appreciate ALL of them!!!):

928
968
944 from the time they got the new dashboard (85.5?), my favorite being the S2
996 Carrera 4S
993 Carrera 4S
930 turbo 3.3
911 Carrera wide body as Coupe, Cab, or Speedster
356 Carrera 2 (I once got a ride in a blue/grey coupe in Germany and will never, ever forget that!)
356 SC Cabriolet
356 Speedster

I have never driven or gotten a ride in a 914 or Cayenne. I like the interior of the Cayenne, and trust its mechanics to be sensational, but I feel the exterior is not dynamic enough for a Porsche. Nevertheless, I acknowledge that the Cayenne is a good thing for Porsche - it brings stability to the company, and will enable them to continue building the more exciting sports cars even in not-so-good times.

928 gets my vote, but just went out and test drove a 993 TT last weekend. Damn! What a rush, but no V8 rumble or BWAHHHH!!! That counts for a lot in my book.

I was pondering this question last night, and how I would make a distinction.

The first Porsche I ever fell in love with was a Guards Red '83 944. Can't help it, I was just in high school then, oblivious to the 928. Knew what a 911SC is, and wanted one, too.

Then came the Road and Track "Technical Ads". SOLD. Advanced engineering bait got me...928 being the most technologically advanced.

So the 944 series is an infatuation. The 928 is TRUE LOVE.
There are other cars that I know I would like to have. When the time is right I'd like to have a 993...last of the air-cooled ones.

I love the 959, but you need to be like Bill Gates to afford one. So is the C-GT, truly a dream, but again Gates-caliber to achieve. And you can never truly love what is just a dream. You have to love what's real, your true love.

So as a car nut I will always look and lust for Maranellos, C-GTs, SLRs, DB9s, and while I dream and perhaps try to achieve one of these one day, my dream that has become a reality is a 928.

The chicks go in the back, not the engine.

No doubt it was taken as a given that no one could possibly think of it as the best Porsche ever. That's probably why the 914/6 was replaced with the 356. I don't think it had received any votes either. We'll see if the 356 fares any better.

where is the check box for an automatic trans. gold metallic 924 ??
a serious omission !! : and, were do I vote for Ralph Nader ??

ps ..... some of you guys should get your cars smog checked.... i think you're breathing a little too much carbon monoxide!

just kidding of course. glad to see that you love your cars so much that vote for it instead of a 993 ..... or a 911SC for that matter

Hey the 928 was brought on to replace the 911 as the flagship model for Porsche. This was a task that it failed miserably at. When you consider it has antifreeze, which in german means antiPorsche how can it be winning?
must be alot of them available for a modest price.
