Hawk's Nest is in Sparrow Bush/Deer Park. NY-97 ends (eastern terminus) in Port Jervis where 42, 97, and 6 all come together. NY-97 runs west along the river to Hancock where you can either go north and east on NY-17. I usually head south on PA-191 in Narrowsburg and head back to central NJ through the northern Poconos, sometimes with the lunch stop in Hawley/Lake Wallenpaupack.

Hawks Nest area includes some good scenic twisties. West of Woodbury and south of Monticello. Pic below. Since I’m a local guy (can go further west), I’m open to what group wants to do since Ts will be from all over….

Edit- Having said that, my thoughts. Given a good number coming from the East, I like what @AdamIsAdam laid out for entire group. Start somewhere around Rockland, go thru Tuxedo and end in Warwick area. Then those that want to follow @DSC48 going another 45 minutes west can also hit the Hawks Nest area. Again IMO. Others should chime in!

Hawk's Nest is fun BUT it's a very short section and heavily patrolled on the weekends. But the rest of NY-97 is pretty awesome as well.

We are just about 1 month away! Would love to get a route locked down so I can make a decision on Hotel/arrival and departure times. Sounds like we are still dealing with some road closure issues and starting/ending point decisions. What are we leaning towards @AdamIsAdam for a starting point?
Looking forward to this weekend

I was just up that way last night and Bear Mountain is still closed per signs on the Palisades Interstate Parkway (PIP).

I went over to Exit 14 on the PIP to check out the meeting place I suggested and I feel that will work. The soccer fields are right next to the highway. And as a backup, if the fields are packed for games we can just go down the road (east) to the government grounds I mentioned originally.
I think we should meet there at a time we all agree to, I'm thinking 7:30am with a pull out time of 7:45am or 8am the latest.
We can follow the route I mapped out with some modifications suggested along the way, and make our way to my friend's house on Cascade Dr where we'll stop for photos and to hang out. (With meeting places at Tuxedo R/R station as originally indicated as needed.)
From there, we can decide if we all want to keep going along the route or turn back.

Other thoughts?

Great. I will plan on this and will plan to get there in time for an 8am departure... I will likely join all the way to your friends place and then head home from there! Will avoid doing a hotel if I can and just make it a long day trip.

Is there an address we can use for the soccer fields/government grounds?

I was going to work on the map and route some more - and by all means, if someone has more experience with that please take over!

Here's the addresses for:
1) North Rockland Soccer Association (Soccer Field): 360 Willow Grove Rd, Thiells, NY 10984
2) Stony Point Justice Court: 6 Patriot Hills Ln, Stony Point, NY 10980

Actually, Justice Court would make for great pics, using Kirby Hall as a back drop. That is assuming the court is closed on the weekend and not crawling with, well, justice enforcers!

I like the Stony Point Justice Court idea. It’s closed on weekends.

That entire area Stony Point, Pomona, Thiells etc is nice….

Ok. And there's a good chance that soccer field will be packed. Plus, that parking lot is part gravel. We'll meet in court!

OK T-Party, I had some time this afternoon so I subscribed to RideWithGPS and planned a route. FYI, it's $9.99/month for the paid version or you can use the free version, but I think only the paid version gives you speaking turn-by-turn directions. It's $9.99/month and you can cancel any time. Tip: Our ride IS LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY, so you can sign up now and cancel after the ride.

ROUTE A:
I added the Greenwood Lake loop, a stop at my friend's house, then Warwick, Pine Island, Port Jervice, and then mapped it out all the way to the beginning of Hawk's Nest.

Remember, we can split off at or before Warwick if people don't have the time to go all the way to Hawk's Nest. Hawk's nest is a very famous road, a bucket list item for many. So I'm starting to think, in for a penny, in for a pound!

NOTE: I'll share the route on RideWithGPS only with those going because I don't want to post my friend's address publicly - that's not my place to do that IMO. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Route B
Here's a suggestion, if we want to push to Hawk's nest, we can remove two loops as shown below. This removes about 30 miles of slow roads, so likely 45-60 minutes of drive time.
UPDATED ROUTE ALL THE WAY TO THE END (BEGINNING) OF HAWK'S NEST, OUR TURNAROUND POINT.

Here's a vid on how to navigate to the starting point:

Is anyone else alive? Bueller? Bueller?

I've been doing some more map-exploring and it looks like our turnaround point, at the furthest, is Barryville, NY. From there, unless traffic dictates otherwise, we can reverse it and drive the Hawk's Nest run again. After all, I'm sure many of us won't be up that way for a long time. For me, it's over 2.5 hours home. It's 4 hours to Boston from there.

Oh, and BTW, I think we may need to officially change the name of this thread and event to: The 911T-Party Meet up & Hawk's Nest Run. All in favor? If so, we'll ask the @moderator to change it.
