Same here, never replaced-doesn’t seems like it would be prone to failure and I have removed/reinstalled several times.

This thread was a big help. My 2018 T has 37,000 kms. Time for new plugs. I had the bumper off to remove the sound symposers. If you're concerned about technical difficulty, I'd rate this at about the same complexity as changing the engine air filter. Easier than switching out cats. Just have the right 3/8" extensions and wobblies.

Interesting. I actually thought of removing them and using the ports for the blow off valves on my setup as I believe the ports are a little larger than the stock location.

Changed the plugs on the passenger side of my 2017 C2 yesterday. Today is the drivers side. I'm questioning why I didn't spend the money to have the dealer do this. Accessing the back heat shield torx and getting the spark plug back in was not fun! Make sure you have the plug all the way in. It's just hard to reach. One thing that really helped (short of removing the bumper) is to remove the back wheel well liner. There are a few trox's and it comes right out. Don't miss the one underneath. Might also remove the hose that is behind the bumper structure. There are two clamps on it.

I just completed my service and I took off the intercoolers to access the area. Gives you full access to the plugs area and It takes less than 5 minutes to take them off. I wish I would have taken the intercoolers off when I installed the sport cats last year. It would have made for a easier install.
This intercooler replacement link helped tremendously in disasembly. https://www.amsperformance.com/wp-co...ler_Kit_98.pdf

To give an idea of the access with the everything removed here a picture of the right side. The only wobble I used was for the spark plugs.

Just finished drivers side, take off the wheel well liner and the hose behind it. This makes it much easier to access the back plug. It takes some work to get the hose off after the clamps are un-tightened. Pull the bottom out first and then twist the hose to get the top out. Also took some work to get it back in. Squeeze the hose and push. Had I have removed this on the passenger side it would have been pretty easy all around. Will definitely do this again myself next time.

Thanks so much for posting the photos and details. Provides me the confidence to do this myself. Can one or both you comment how much force was required to turn the plugs out of the heads? Did they drag on threads coming out or require more torque than new plugs? I am at 4 years, but only 8K miles and on the fence if I should tackle this now or wait.

911BOSS a FIRM push should loosen the plugs, then its a lot of turns to get the plugs out I think about 30. After the initial push all the plugs came out very easily.

Default Spark Plug Change

Great post, just took out my passenger plugs. The plugs look great but as per picture and smell there is oil on the threads. The car 2018 GTS with 9k miles, I don't believe the plugs have ever been changed. It looks like I could have waited at least another 2 years.

Does anyone else think the change interval of 991.2 spark plugs of every 30k miles or 3 years is unreasonable? I have a 2019 911T with 15k miles. I'm "due" for plugs due to 3 year requirement, but I'm pretty sure that with 15k miles they're in good/great shape. I've owned several sports cars, but never heard of a three year replacement schedule for plugs. I was quoted $900 by a reputable independent shop, but due to this thread (and having a 2 post lift), I'll do it myself when the time is right. I understand keeping up with scheduled maintenance for warranty and taking proper care of your car reasons, but this replacement schedule seems ludicrous to me.

I had my plugs replaced as per schedule with only 12k miles on them. As one would expect they were pristine, and came out with zero issues.

Seemed a bit premature.

On the other hand, my RX-7 goes through plugs every year when driven, and they clearly benefit from being replaced.

The 911, seems like they could go MUCH longer, as long as you can remove them.
