Anybody else have any fun Porsche projects going on this winter? I am having a blast with my engine swap and interior build but I'm missing driving it already.
With last year being the first time I've taken a car to a track that wasn't a straight line. I'm anxious to get it done this winter and do a lot more track days next summer.

Dropped the engine and slowly getting ready to disassemble and ship the heads to the south and the crankcase to the west.
Even installing a furnace to heat my shop wasn't much fun. It is satisfying though. Especially when I now step into a warm space...

What are you having done to the heads? I always port and polish my own heads and was wondering if that is even an option with Porsche heads. My next house (hopefully next year) will get me back into a pole barn and I plan on getting a bridgport so I can do my own valve jobs as well. so tired of getting ripped off my shops. now If I could just learn transmissions lol
I put a wall mount heater in my garage last winter... so much better then the kerosene smelly torpedo heater lol

Yeah - I have been using two torpedo heaters for the past two years. About $42 per week when I run them a lot. I'll have to see how much propane I go through. I'm fairly certain it will be less.
Do you have a flow bench, to confirm your port work is beneficial? I've done some other engines, but do not have a quantifiable confirmation method. I would think that these heads can be ported. I will not be doing that. My plan is to send them to Hamheads (Hoffman) in Georgia. From what I have read, they are the experts on these heads. I should be able to trust their recommendations and work.
I have a local shop for most of my engine machine work. Auto Parts Machine in Ann Arbor. Their prices are good as is their work.

He does good work but now I have nothing to use the heads for since I sold my vette. I had a diy flow bench in my last home when I had a pole barn. I have all the stuff in storage somewhere but I didn't even test the set I did for my the 3.8 motor I built for the Porsche... they should be ok lolol
last time I took a toy car in somewhere was my vette and got it back with busted exhaust "not our fault" cv joint grease on my seat and steering wheel "it was already there" and work done that was just not worth what I paid for. shucks couple years ago I took my wife van to the Chrysler dealership and got it back with 32 miles on it. they told us they like to check there work before they give them back with test runs... huh.. 32 miles lol I just don't have faith in them anymore.

I would have been OK with this to some extent. 32 miles might be excessive, but at least you know they drove it and, in theory, checked it out. When I had the Cayman I took it in for a popping noise. Told them exactly how to recreate it. They claimed they couldn't do it, and somehow managed to "test" while adding 0 miles to the odometer.

same here i am so darn picky about things that I always find faults in what others do and I just hate spending money on things I know I can do myself lol

You're concerned about a minivan being test driven to confirm the repair? If it didn't get repaired, you'd have a beef. I would take that as a proper verification drive.
I agree with your complaint on the Vette. That is a real problem. See below my story....

When I was a teenager - I bought a Honda motorcycle. Thought it would be good to have it serviced at the dealer. Took it in for its first tune-up. The bill was a lot more than I expected. I think they gave me the parts they replaced in a little bag. A spark plug and maybe something else. From then on, I vowed to learn how to do my own work and just pay for parts.
I've gotten pretty good at it. I've built many competition cars and many engines over the years. I finally have a shop that very closely matches the dream I have been working on for years (a lift, tire mounting and balancing equipment, 20 ton press, band saw, drill press, basic welders, etc). If I can read how to do it, and have the tools, I can pretty much do it.
I have that attitude about just about everything I do. If I can't do it, it probably won't happen. I am very reluctant to pay anyone for any service.
My last visit to a dealer (25+ years ago) was to have a transfer case replaced under recall on one of my Talons. I'll not go into all of the details, but they installed a transfer case that was not a match for my car (one spline difference on the input/ output shaft). I took it back and told them they did something wrong, as it felt like the clutch was slipping. They tried to blame me claiming I must have screwed up the installation of my new clutch. I ended up taking the car to the Mitsubishi dealership - they found the problem but couldn't do the work because technically it was an Eagle. Six weeks later - I got my car back. Never, never, ever again.
Were it not for the recall, my last visit would have been.... the motorcycle...

Great, they are yours, glad to hear they will get used. A little more info on the Strut Rod, I can’t use it for the following reasons:
1). It fits snug with a stock battery, but the Anti Gravity battery was just a hair bigger, so I could not jam it in there.
2). Maybe just me, but at the full short position, I could not get more than -2 degrees of camber (and I needed -2.5 or more)
