Was in this AM to have my brake fluid flushed - last item on my "intermediate" service checklist (not actually on the list since it's based on time - not miles.. but.. needed doing) and chatted a bit with the Service Adviser (who I'm friendly with.) I asked about AH08. He said they've done about 10 of them so far - and 2 of them had loose bolts - so they got new Variocam Adjusters. The others just got replacement bolts. He said there are actually 3 stages, which I believe are: (1) New bolts - old bolts not loose and come out OK, new ones torque up OK. (2) New Variocam adjusters - loose bolts (3) Something more - probably up to camshaft or engine replacement for ones that go blooey. They haven't had one of these under the campaign, but they did have some before the recall was issued.

Mine was marked off as done with the explanation that the scope of the campaign had been completed before the campaign began.

And the brake fluid flush had results - firmer pedal. Must have been a bit of trapped air somewhere in the system. Good for another 2 years. Cost was roughly $200 - which isn't a lot different from having my indy do the job - but the dealer has the nice flushing machine and PIWIS to run through the steps and exercise the ABS/Active-brake unit.

To those that filed for reimbursement - any response yet? I sent my paperwork in 2 months ago and have not heard anything.

Thanks.

I sent mine in Certified Mail on 02/01. I called about a week or so ago and asked what the status was (the number on the form 1-877-919-6430). The young lady who returned my call said they are working on them now - and checking to see if the applications are complete, and expected to be sending checks out in 4-8 weeks. I'm at 6 weeks now - and may call again this week. She did locate my forms/paperwork, and said mine looked very complete.. so dunno what's holding it up aside from the cost of $$..

Thanks Don. I had a similar experience trying to make a claim to a Mercedes class action settlement (not the same as a recall). They went back and forth telling me my paperwork was not complete and ultimately denied it... after the settlement deadline. This is looking like that situation all over again. Ridiculous that they would delay these claims. Agree, the only upside is the cost of money... which isn't much these days.

Please keep me posted and I'll do the same.

Patrick,

Will do. Upside of a recall - if we disagree with any settlement with them it can be appealed via NHTSA. I'm fairly certain they don't want that..

Default Cayenne camshaft bolts

Hello from Germany.

I am currently looking into getting a 958. We did not get the recall for the cam shaft adjuster bolts.
I read in a forum that you can also check the serial number on the adjuster. If it ends with 21 it is the aluminium bolts. If it ends with 22 or 23 you have the steel bolts.
Is that correct? Does anybody have more Informations on that?
Someone also said that the Cayenne V8 only came with steel bolts.

best regards

Look at the "sticky" above regarding variocam bolts. A couple of minutes with an inspection or dental mirror and you can tell easily. Early 958 V-8's are not exempt.

Unfortunately I didn’t bring a dental mirror when I looked at the car.
I would just like to know if there is a correlation between the numbers and the bolts.

If people looked at their part number who had to go through the recall we could see if there is a correlation.

Mine is a 2012 built November 2011 not subject to the recall. Mine has the steel bolts. I believe, from reading here and elsewhere this is about the time of the changeover at Porsche.

Would you be able to look under the oils ap and check the partnumber?
was the adjuster changed with the recall or only the bolts ?

First, read the sticky about the camshaft bolt issue in this forum. Everything you need to know there.

Secondly, you can enter the VIN of the vehicle in question here to see if it has the outstanding recall (although since you're out of the USA apparently, this website probably won't work for you, this is Porsche USA. But Porsche should have a comparable site for your country as well)..... https://recall.porsche.com/prod/pag/...f/VIN?ReadForm
