Diesel - losing engine oil

Diesel - losing engine oil
2013 Cayenne diesel ~ 63,000 miles
For about a year noticed that our engine oil quantity level has been dropping. As time went on it is losing more at a quicker rate. Started a short trip at two bars indicated low. We are 2,600 miles into our 5,000 mile oil change cycle. After ~200 miles the level dropped another two bars when the engine oil quantity indicated it was at the minimum level. I know that the quantity each bar indicates is not much. Also realize the importance of proper torque for the drain plug crush washer. We have not noticed any leakage on the skid plate or garage floor.
Has anyone else noticed an increased usage rate of engine oil?

Not seen that personally. I'm at 42k miles now. My diesel consumed about a 1/2 qt between 5k changes the first 20k miles. now it's maybe at most 1/4 qt, including lots of towing use. Basically 1 bar change from the fill.
So, yours sounds odd. I'd get it checked out. Good news is it should be under warranty due to the diesel scandal.

Each "BAR" is 250cc's (it's in the manual..) Sounds like you have a leak somewhere. You likely haven't overflowed the diaper pan under the engine - yet - which is why you aren't seeing oil - yet.
BTW - the EPA requirements are the primary reason for the belly pans on modern cars - they wanted cars to stop dripping raw petro products on the road where they get washed into streams when it rains. So you got belly pans. Some manufacturers were smart enough to make them also perform air-flow shaping service too..

Uh Oh
My 2013, CPO thankfully, had what we thought was an RMS leak. Upon further investigation it was not the RMS. Rather it was another gasket of some sort on the engine that required three weeks to repair. Engine removed, front end removed, and engine disassembled to some degree. There is a Service Bulletin on this issue. I do not have more info but a dealer will know about it.
I hope your issue is not this. If it is, I hope you have a CPO.
Pictures of work done November 2016. Loaner was a Cayenne Hybrid. Like the Diesel way better!

How much oil do y'all use between oil changes? - How many miles on your CD?

As posted above, 42k. On change fill to top of gauge. On change it's maybe 1 bar lower. So no adds. I only added oil 2 times between changes since I've had the car.

Agree with many comments above re: leaking. If you take off the plastic under body panels you should be able to see quickly if there is oil on them or not. There are several cases of oil leaks in 2013 CD's, including mine. Porsche actually replaced my engine at about 22,000 miles (my leak looked like it was coming from the bell housing but in fact it was a manufacture defect from the casting of the engine block - hence the new engine). I'm now at ~48,000 and have not had a leak since. Mine was a small leak but a leak nonetheless. It was a lot of work and time, that was the downside, the upside was I got to test a lot of Porsche loaner cars from other Cayenne's to Paramera's to 911. Porsche has a service bulletin out on the CD oil leaks so your dealer should be well aware of it. Hopefully you have only an increased oil consumption and not a leak, but if you do, they will take care of it for you, it should only cost you time.

Thanks for all the input! Took 'Otis' to the dealer yesterday for the oil usage issue. We started a short trip two bars down then lost another 2 bars driving 200 miles putting us at the minimum oil level. Taking what was said above, that each oil level light segment equals 250cc - As we lost two additional in 200 miles, that means we lost 500cc or 16oz - one pint in 200 miles. A quart of oil every 400 miles seems to be more than what should be expected.
Previously they checked and found the reason for our Check Engine' light was a faulty diesel particulate filter sensor.
DPF sensor part came in -and- getting another dash clock as the second hand fell off.

Three Wheelin'
my 2013 never had evidence of an obvious oil leak, but the low oil quantity message came on right at the 5000 mile oil change interval the whole time we had it (47k total when we turned it in). New one doesn't seem to burn it as much
