wonder how hard it would be to port the information from one of the other brand's units to the cayenne? it would probably violate some copyright or the DCMA, but if you bought the information legally, "dear navtec, i have a range rover...." i fail to see how this could be. of course, i am not an atty nor do i play one on television. would be nice if we could find out what makes the disc brand specific, even if there was another marque's car that used the same brand of nav system.

I do not have the time but it would be interesting to look at the raw data, if the format is common, hack the CD format and splice in the data. The problem is that both updates I have had also contained SW updates to the PCM software. I am sure it is possible but it would be some work IF the data format from Navteq is the common factor (shhh it is)

Default great

now all we have to do is find out which OTHER car nav system has compatible files, with ALL the nav data in them, and then get a copy, pull the nav data, vampire the headers and id numbers off of an old dvd for the porsche, burn the new frankenstein disk and we have it made.

wow, did all that in a single sentence.

shame i turned in my Legion of DOOM membership card, but it shouldn't be too bad. i was looking on the becker website, they are OEM for Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Ford, Landrover and VW/Audi among others. would suspect the vw/audi would be closest to the porsche (in engineering, we call that a WAG). will start looking to find one of the dvd's on ebay.

Okay, I have been following the threads, mailed my letter to PCNA, and have been bugging my service department.

This moring I ordered the PCM update from the Tequipment Catalog.

Part Number: 955-044-900-08
Price: $228

My tech said the part title is "Retrofit Update Kit Navigation" and he read the description too me that siad it was a 5 disc kit to update the navigation to level B. It said you could enter destinations by zipcodes, it would expose more features, and give more data with more accuracy. Sounds exactly like the TSB for Update B.

I will have it Thursday for a Friday install and wil lpost results.

Maybe, but probably not. Let's see if we get mail today or early this week. Otherwise letter #2 goes, you know that'll scare 'um!

Red face Waiting.......................

Got the initial letter, kicking it to another person. No response since. Guessing it was kicked into the circular file.

Really miss Lewis.....he'd be chiming in with some zingers
