Default 2008 Cayenne Turbo with ~90K miles... whats the worst that could happen? LOL

Always hunting for my dream 957 GTS spec but stumbled upon a 2008 Cayenne Turbo with 90K that looks to have been always dealer serviced. Truck has some neat options including Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control.

Im waiting for my dealer to pull the service records from the VIN the seller supplied me but whats the verdict on the 957 Turbos?

Hoping coolant pipes have been upgraded and other "common problems" are taken care of but hows daily driving these bad boys?

Seller claims no rust or accident history. Looking for a winter daily driver that may turn into a year round daily driver/ tow vehicle for a car trailer.

Thats the plan.

My Mini has been trouble free (knock on wood) except for my rear tires cupping a couple thousand miles ago. Redid the suspension and its a blast. The later cars (2013-14) seem to be less prone to the common problems plaguing the earlier cars.

Overall I'll regret selling it but I could use the extra space daily and cant justify keeping the Mini around, paying insurance/maintenance etc.

Are the Turbo Cayennes also prone to bore scoring? I thought that was an issue with the N/A cars that done have the piston oil squirters?

My generation is the worst, and I only still own it because my rink buddy works at the dealer and maintains it. Right now I have a CEL that I can't shake and I have to take to him. Your generation is by far the best according to him. Wife loves her mini so it stays for now....

It's been mentioned on this board by several folks that the MY08 turbo is more prone to scoring than any other years. Do a search on 2008 turbos...

I'll have a look now, thanks!

Curious to see what issues its had in its dealer maintained life. Would prefer a 2009-10 car but I guess it all depends on condition. I hear the Bluetooth is better on the later cars?

I would avoid the '08 (especially the turbo) and look for an '09 or newer.

Here's some random threads on '08 turbos with scored cylinders...it's almost a weekly topic.

Dammit. So close...

While Im ready to maintain a Cayenne, Im not ready to rebuild/replace an engine. Same reason I sold my 1999 996 C2.

Is this going to be your primary daily driver, and do you do your own wrenching?

I do my own wrenching but it would be my primary daily driver. ~15K miles a year to and from work...

Seems like each time I try to get myself into a Cayenne, I end up realizing its not the best idea

Depends, have you looked at the 2011+ turbos? Outside of the transfer case, they seem very reliable. Once you can get by the pointy nose..lol...

Cayenne is a great DD, as long as you know what you're getting into. I've had 2x 2009s. One was a GTS and now a CTTS. The GTS I got cheap with 125K knowing that I needed to replace the drive shaft, high pressure fuel pump and 2 other fuel pumps and filter. These are all known issues and I figured it would last for quite awhile, as I'm big on preventive maintenance. Once replaced, I knew I would be good for a long time. After that, it was perfect. I ended up selling it because I found a CTTS that I couldn't live without. It's been flawless so far but I'm going through and doing little things like fluids, air/oil separator, etc. I'm a big fan of the 09-10 because I think they look the best (toughest). Full leather makes a big difference on the early models and PDCC is pretty sweet. However, in my opinion the GTS didn't have PDCC and handled very, very well.

Best of luck. Cheers!

Stop with the bore scoring hysteria . ..I have an 05 and a 06 and they are excellent trucks very few issues . ...Take the bore scoring banter to the 997 forum ...I have one of those also and just as reliable as my 955 ...

Right, we should ignore the failures in those previously posted links and the Rennlist bore scoring survey when someone new comes here asking for advice about buying a Cayenne and just pretend it doesn't happen. I love my CTTS and my 997s, but am a realist that any of them could have this issue, but personally, I wouldn't purchase an 08 Cayenne v8. If others choose to once processing all the information, then so be it.

HA. And 2000-01 996s don't have intermix or IMS issues... we are talking about the propensity for a 2008 CTT to have scoring issues. I had one and there have been quite a few more reported that contributes to a pretty clear picture that the 2008s and early 2009s with a different cylinder honing process can have issues. The 955 models seem to be much more reliable on this front than the 957's in question.
