Default Most Extreme Cayenne Turbo Cylinder Failure Yet

2008 Cayenne Turbo, 43,900 miles.
Was diagnosed by the customer's local shop as cylinder scoring on #5. They were right.

Piston material is fused onto the bore. We'll take care of that😀

Never say never.. I have seen my share.

BUT the CTT engines don't fail as often as the S models, as they have increased running clearances from the factory, and often times its just enough to get them through the critical points of failure.

In Milwaukee, thats not the case, or at least it wasn't for this one.

You can find scored cylinder posts from every forum on any car Porsche has ever made. No car, regardless of manufacturer, is immune from scored cylinders. It's the frequency and mechanism that is different between a CTT and a 955 CS.

That's more than just driving in cold weather.

Also remember that the actual number of turbo engines out there is far less than the number NA engines so it is natural that incidences of bore score in turbo engines will come to light much less frequently than those in NA engines.

I wonder if the engine was modified for more power before it failed. Almost looks like something was ingested by the level of damage.

The engine is 100% stock, to include ECU tune.

This failure is nothing new, however this one was driven way too long with this issue. The severity is based more from driving the vehicle with this issue, more than the primary failure.

This is what happens when people say "it drives fine, it just makes a ticking sound, like a bad lifter".

Of the turbo failures I've seen on the forum, the incidence with the 957 seems higher than the 955, and they seem to happen with low mileage. Is that what you're seeing? I can't think of any higher mileage turbos that came down with scored cylinders, but using forum stats isn't exactly representative of the population.
