Hi Bob
I think I may have confused you completely!

I’ll have another go at explaining.

The last pic is the VCDS cable. It’s not the Cayenne.

the pins are numbered the same no matter which end we are talking about. 1 male (in the VCDS cable) goes to 1 female (in the car).

So, we are simply connecting a cable (VCDS) to the car via an extension lead (or splitter. Serves the same purpose).
So, without us altering anything, pin 1 from the cable goes to 1 on the extension and 1 on the car. 2 to 2 to 2 etc etc all the way to 16.
You need to change ONE thing in the extension.
Find the wire that extends pin 15. Cut it.
find the wire that extends 3. Cut that.
now, join them together. 15 to 3. And 3 to 15.
One of those will make it work, one is completely useless but it may make it easier!
That is it. All you need to do.
ill take another photo tomorrow with the cable laid out.

Hi....I have followed your last post with some results...still can't read the engine and transmission data....its about the same as my original VCDS cable?
Not sure what i'm doing wrong...guess a photo of your cable would be a help..
Thanks again for your patience's...Bob.

So which modules did you get?

Now try connecting the VCDS cable straight to the car with no extension/splitter at all. (You should get the DME and transmission that way, but no others).
thats blocks 1 and 2 to save you some time.

Is there a free version of VCDS to try this out. Would stink to pay for the sw and then the cable does not work.

The software is free. It’s the cable that you pay for.

I just had an interesting thing happen. I ordered a vcds from Ross-tech and they just got the payment so when they checked the order and saw I have a Porsche they sent an email that since they don't support Porsche they would cancel the order and refund my payment. I called and talked to Helen, who was as nice as could be, and she informed me she had to do this as policy. If I go with it it anyway I just don't get tech support. I asked her to go ahead with it anyway and I'll get support here if needed (or one of their tech's who owns a Porsche might answer an email). Did anyone else with a vcds go through this?

Stringbag, I have a question. I just got my VCDS and modified a splitter OBDII cable with pins 3 & 15 spliced together as noted above. I cannot get auto scan to work. I believe the message it gives is not supported by module. I'll get a screenshot later. Any idea what may be wrong? Also, do you know where I can find the coding values for various modules? VCDS does not give much support from what I've seen so far.

Hi
It won’t auto detect - the Car is too old. You have to select Touareg (or cayenne if you have enabled it).
see here
https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/autoscan.php

To personalise the list of vehicles to Your installation of VCDS- is add Porsche cayenne (or Lamborghini, or Bentley etc etc) follow this link as only VW or Audi cars are enabled on the list out of the box.

Now to just figure out some coding for things like the supplemental air pumps.

I was just looking through the auto scan file and it has 3 Cayennes listed and 2 Panameras. I didn't look at it before doing the scan, but would the scan update it with info it finds? The Cayennes are listed as ;9P, ;92, ;A2. No years listed.

Excellent! Success.
With regards the models, maybe. Try it! No harm done. Or just look through the differences and take a pragmatic view.
I made a bespoke ‘my cayenne’ file with just the modules fitted to my car. Saves time as it searches three times before it skips to the next one. I don’t have a pano roof for example, or a towbar, so no point scanning for those modules.
You can add and remove the address labels as you see fit.
