New here, setting up my 08 997.1tt 6sp for winter!
Just picked her up in Nov, shipped to PA from California. 35k miles, clean, sport Chrono, 6sp. I had a 991tt with PDK and wanted the 6sp and a car I could tinker with. My E46 BMW M3 6sp keeps getting lapped by my buddies on the track, so it was time to rejoin the Porsche family.
Started working with Kevin from UMW last week, shipped him initial stock logs/telemetry. Wish I understood lambdas and retard figures better, so much to learn!
In the meantime:
1) removing Sirius satellite radio, which seems to have been wired in through. Denison Gateway 500(?) which is likely lurking behind the PCM. Nasty audio ground loop on the Sirius module anyway due to dumb wiring.
2) Either reusing the now unused RCA aux input from this Denison device for a Bluetooth adapt, or, if I can find it, I believe there may be a replacement input module that supports Bluetooth for this Denison. Curious if anyone has dealt with this old thing?
3) replaced front lower spoiler lip with the cheapo from eBay.
4) debating removing or repairing built-in Escort 9500ci radar/laser w/gps because the damn control units buttons don't all work, so I can't configure it beyond factory defaults.
5) installed winter wheels and tires I got from a fellow Rennlister
6) debating switching to a lightweight battery. I assume I can find the best recommended option in a thread in Rennlist.
7) installed trickle charger, might do a grommet to pull the connector into the frunk
8) lovingly detailed the car, before taking it for a ride in the cold Pennsylvania rain!
Love this thread and this community, all. Looking forward to being a part of it! Winters (Sottozeros, not x-ice, unfortunately) Points for creativity to the prior owner/shop Cheapo front lip replaced. eBay, was supposed to be flat but came in gloss.
Denison Gateway seems to be what's installed as mine looks and behaves like this.
Mount Sottozeros so I can safely drive the car in sub 40 degree weather (done today - had to do this twice since they mounted one tire reversed - now the third time this has happened to me with three different installers)
Acquire and install a set of OEM springs - not a fan of the H&R springs currently on the car
Acquire and install an OEM shift **** - not a fan of the metal ball
Address an oil leak I discovered today when re-installing wheels - this should be fun
Wrapping up install of AMS Alpha kit, Do88 Turbo Inlets, IPD 74mm plenum, new Sparks/Coil Packs (glad I did while I had engine lowered, they were originals and I'm at 60k), & RS Style engine mounts from FVD (wanted GT2 OE but couldn't justify cost during this spending spree, may go this route if the FVD Clubsports are too rugged).
Picking up 2 new replacement rubber grommets for the bottom of the intake, originals were ripped up. Excited to fire it up, should be running crispy
Did you have to trim the DO88 pipes? Mine were too long on both ends, I had to trim to keep them from bending out of shape.
Mine look good on the turbo side, not contacting anything but I have yet to put the intake back in so will see if that requires them to be pushed downwards a bit more. The passenger side is close to touching but i have a 1/4" to 1/8" gap currently, Drivers side looks great. Will circle back when I get up to my buddys shop to finish and do boost leak test.
