Looks like GP Motors ended up working out a deal on this one.

It's a shame that pricing is undergoing blatant market manipulation...

The days of enthusiasts purchasing these cars for pure enjoyment are over. Today, is all about speculation and trying to make a buck.

I'm afraid you're right. The only exception is enthusiasts who are well off enough not to care about price.

Agreed and it's sad.

Happy Easter everyone.

I just put 250 miles of canyon roads on my newly purchased .1 yesterday. I couldn't imagine buying these things to park them.

What's even more sad, is that those of us who bought years ago (at pre-insane pricing) who can, & still do enjoy them for driving pleasure, are the ONLY ones who can do so without guilty pressure on their shoulders NOT to put lots of miles on them.

It's those who are currently buying at these elevated prices, who have this nagging demon sitting on their shoulder, saying "don't put miles on it, cuz it will decrease in value".

That is very sad to me,... cuz it literally creates LESS & LESS opportunity to meet & find new friends who own & drive these 997's for the enjoyment of the drive.

Southern Cali is a bit of a anomaly because your car scene is so much more concentrated (& 12 months of favorable weather helps create new enthusiasts). I NEVER see 997's (any variant, let-alone GT3's) out in the wild out here.

Have never passed by a 997 GT car on the road out here (unless it was a PCA drive I was on). You never see them. I'd be interested to know the % of 997 GT3's that have been totaled out, exported, in bad accidents, turned into race cars etc. Given 10-15 years of time passing and many of these being used on track early in life, I wouldn't be surprised if 10% are not on the road anymore. Random guess.

^ interesting hypothesis Bxstr you may be on to something.

Most of you know these cars are amazingly fun to DRIVE in the wild. FWIW, since the pandemic i just clocked 13k miles on my 991.2, and 7k mikes on my 997RS, and 5k mikes on my 993. 100% weekend miles on PA backroads, fun drives and track. Zero trips to the office or to Costco or in local traffic behind meddling Subaru owners. If you catch me on a lonely highway or Pennsylvania backroad, you’ll need your camera ready cuz I’m hauling the mail. Driving a Porsche is such a fun and freeing activity; especially in the extraordinary time we are living in. Enjoy and God bless.

Very true. my budget of 120 for a 7.2 is like trying to catch a ballon floating away. Sooner or later I will get it. I have to think of it as a very nice ($$$) bottle of scotch or a fine dinner steak, very expensive but you can't just let it sit there.
More saddle time you get, the more "great steak dinners you've had".

"you get to appreciate the depreciation"......

i don't think that's entirely true. i paid $160K for my .2 and it's my daily driver and i'm in LA. so, i don't care about the miles. buying regular cars for value appreciation is a new thing. i bought mine as a keeper. if i put 5-6K miles a year on it as a daily driver i could drive it for 7 years every day and based on current pricing, i'd still sell it for like $100K with 60,000 miles... so if i am driving a GT3 for $60K over 7 years, i'm not mad. if you buy a car to park it because you're a collector and it's one of many, that's fine. if you buy a car and you're worried about value depreciation from driving it, you can't afford the car.

Completely agree. I bought my 7.1 earlier at start of year, and I could care less about miles as it’s so fun to drive. Granted, it’s not my work daily but I try to use it as much as I can.

I didn’t pay as much as you did, but even if I did, I’d drive it whenever I could. Most fun and emotion invoking car I’ve ever driven.

yep. here is the best, little known mod for your GT3 that adds to the enjoyment more than anything... cut a 1 inch strip and place it right over the odometer.

I actually know someone that did this. Whatever makes putting miles on easier.
