Default .2 GT3 or GT3 RS. Worth the difference in price?

Considering a .2 GT3 variant. I don't mean to ask a stupid question but given the delta between the GT3 and the GT3 RS, is the latter worth the extra money? Thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance from a GT3 stalker...

OMG...I've never read through 1000 posts on this topic before

There is a ton of wonderful stuff in here if you search, stuff you'll not get again in this thread.

Massive difference between the two if you want there to be

Wikipedia summary:
More power
Lower gearing
Light weight flywheel
Wider front and rear
Considerably more downforce (a lot more)
Side by side, the RS is noticeably faster on a track, mainly due to downforce.
Closer to the .2Cup cars than the NB.

Hey thanks for your summary. I did a quick search and didn't find a whole lot.

Note: Some people think these forums are like Wikipedia where all these opinions are actually "facts'. We'll these opinions can get buried and sometimes not easily found so if you would like to give a few words, in a new unit of time, please chime in. If you don't want to, that's fine too. Appreciate any feedback.

P.s. At least it's not another "IMS thread" on the 996 Forum.

P.ss This is a good thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-...-vs-gt3rs.html

I've driven both a lot. The biggest difference is the gearing around town, more noise (virtually no sound deadening and LWFW), and faster reving. At the track, the gearing, downforce, and wider tires help a lot. Whether it;s worth it is a function of how much you care about it being an RS. This is probably the worst possible time to be buying one from a monetary standpoint, why not just be completely silly and just get the RS.

Some downforce numbers I got from autoundsport and posted a while back..
991TurboS Front 20Kg, Rear 40Kg
991GT3 Front 18Kg, Rear 29Kg, 0.33Cd
991S Virtually none, Cd 0.29
GT3RS4.0 Front 14Kg, Rear: 58Kg on lowest setting, 0.35Cd (wing on max attack, the 3.8RS would be the same on rear wit wing on max attack)
GT3RS.2 Front: 11Kg, Rear: 49Kg on lowest setting, 0.33Cd (not sure why front is lower than NB)
GT3.2 Front: 15Kg, Rear: 19Kg on lowest setting, 0.32Cd
GT2RS Front 14Kg, Rear 35Kg
GT2.1 Front 9Kg, Rear 29Kg
GT3RS.1 Front: -2Kg, Rear 10Kg, 0.3Cd
GT3.1 Front ~0, Rear ~0 (they said it was virtually non existent, but not buoyant.), 0.29Cd
996GT3RS Front -19Kg, Rear 25Kg

BMW M3GTS Front 7Kg, Rear 30Kg, 0.32Cd

Imo not a big difference between 997.1 gt3 and 997.1 gt3 RS. There is is much bigger difference between 997.2 gt3 and 997.2 gt3 RS. At the end of the day, the RS is worth the difference in price.

the difference is mainly on paper and academic unless u are some hot shoe

at msrp I suppose RS is worth a few bucks more
at today's delta, u have to be pretty dumb to
buy RS

that said RS is RS
and I really like RS, my most favored alphabets in the language. after paying for the RS, i promptly deleted the RS logo and decal in all my RS

I did say only the dumb ones buy RS. I just illustrated my point.

while this sounds ridiculous and insane, feel
free to read all the journalist reviews and put 50000 miles on the two chassis, u will
find your conclusion to be very similar.

is the wife's D IF princess 3 ct rock really worth the delta over a fake. let the debate begin and bring out the soda and popcorn

I had a 997.2 non-RS and then bought a 997.2RS and I will tell you...YES it's worth the difference in price.

It depends,...

7.2RS was great for track car and some weekends. Non-RS makes for good DD, good track car, and awesome weekend car. Owned both a couple of times now. Kept 7.2 non-RS for my purposes.

Agreed that the differences between non-RS and RS are barely noticeable, unless very good driver. But RS is RS.

Very cool. Tx guys. It's all a bit "mad" this buying of these P-cars. Love it all the same... I'll keep things updated.

Depends on if you will get dunned for maintenance and child support when she finds out.
Which segues us to the old price vs value joke...

If you got the cash, get the RS.

Search is irrelevant. Few years back the price delta was $20K. Now it's $100K... Is an RS at almost double the price of a GT3 worth it?

FWIW I couldn't justify an RS last year at "only" 50% over a GT3. This year it's not even a thought.

Then again, if money is no object why not...

When I started looking for a 997.2 GT3, i was hoping to get RS and the price delta was something like 30-40k. even at that i had a hard time justifying it since it was going to be a street car for me. then as price delta moved up and up, it priced me out of RS anyway, so decision became much easier.

i've not driven a RS, but when i chatted with SSTHO at Laguna Seca and got his impression (as he stated above) it did make me feel better about only having a lowly GT3.
