Default Buying 997.2 GT3 vs GT3RS

I know, I know: Use the fargin Search Function

Well, I have. For quite some time actually.

In fact, I had an order placed for a GTR, but cancelled it due to this ongoing "research".

Now the difference with most posters here, is that the car I want to buy will be a Garage Queen, a Poser, a Princess with clean cloths who never touches dirt. A Sissy. It will be driven only on sunny warm days. It won't be a DD. Nor a track *****.

Now, before you kick me out and accuse me as a Troll, or a "Kitty" that doesn't deserve to own a Porsche, let alone a GT3, let me clarify this: I track and Instruct regularly, for BMWCCA and PBOC and I have a fully caged, fully stripped E36 M3 Race Car which turns same lap times as a non-RS GT3 at Putnam Park. Cheaper to run, lighter, and more importantly, safer.

Besides, I'm probably gonna take the car along to one of our schools, just to run it a session or two, once or twice a year, if that much. Just to stretch her legs and see what she can do. And for show off. After all, why else would you date a Super Model if you are not gonna ride her hard at least once or twice, right?

Also, if I'm gonna spend the extra money on a Porsche, it has to be a GT3. No other Porsche for me. Call me radical extremist if you will, but for me, the 911 is the GT3. And if I don't like it, I doubt I'd like any other model.

Thanks to you, the hardcore fanatics on the web, besides the GT3, I am now considering the GT3 RS as well.

So, given the intended purpose:
Garage Queen
Very sporadic track runs (1-2 hrs a year)
Driven only on summer day, around country back roads (no stop-go traffic).
Keep if for a good while (10 years if not more)

So, I'm torn between the two.

997.2 GT3:
PROs:
-Rear spoiler blends nicely with the body work
-Cup Holders for my Frap
-Door storage pocket for my cell/wallet
-Tires are easier to find
-No "Look at me!", "I'm a Fast and Furious Movie Star" or "Just gimme the ticket, will ya?" appearance
-No noisy Lightweight Flywheel (LWFW)
-No racing clutch (easier to drive smooth on the street)

CONs:
-No quicker rev'ing LWFW
-No JLo Hips
-"Slower", or Not as fast (for those sensitive to the word "Slow")
-"Only" 435 hp.
-Mostly come with steel brakes
-Harder to find them with bucket seats

997.2 GT3 RS
PROs
-450hp
-Faster
-Lighter
-Big BUTTOCKS
-MAYBE better long term value?
-LWFW
-Faster (I think I already said that, haven't I)
-Mostly come with ceramic brakes (which I want for the street)
-Shorter gearing (great for track)

CONs
-The Boeing 747 wing
-Harder to find tire options
-Noisy LWFW
-The boy ricer appearance (quite at home at the track, no so much at the Hospital Parking Lot)
-MAYBE more depreciation 5-10 years down the road and most of them will be track rats at the end of the warranty period?
-Shorter gearing (not as great for street)
-Racing Clutch disc (harder to drive smooth on the street)

From what I've read, the drivability on the street is just about the same on both models, but since it's not a DD, that has me without concern.

BOTTOM LINE:

Which one should I get:

a) The hot blond girl who is quite good enough in bed, but a bitch at times

or

b) The just as bitchy hot latina with the big butt and who is a roller coaster in bed, but embarrasses you sometimes in public

(Good thing I won't have to marry either of them, but have one for the mistress duties only!)

Flame Away!!

If I was buying a garage queen, it would be a euro trash green 997.1 RS. The 997.2RS is geared more for the track. For street you want comfy seats, not GT2 type seats......997.1 RS comes with them

I know I did not answer your question, but either 997.2 non RS or 997.1 RS.

The 997.2 GT3 has 435HP not 415, I think. I would suggest that if you are not going to track it, the RS does not make a whole bunch of sense. Both are great choices however. GL.

You are right, Sir. I stand corrected.

I corrected it on the original post.

I was thinking the same thing. But at the same time, the car won't be a daily driver. But a high performance garage car. So I was thinking more on the lines of: Better seats for when I decide to track it, or drive it on mountain roads, or when it's time to sell. Comfort was not even in the list of concerns, as I won't have to live with them. I only weight less than 160lbs, so all seats are big for me. :-)

all those con's on the RS are actually pros..

Joking on the side what Izzone said. If not tracking regularly go for GT3

Take it from me, buy the RS because if you don't, you will obsess until you break down and buy one! I made the wrong choice at the start and it was about a $40K lesson! The RS is very easy to live with on the street - especially with the lift kit! I have the GT 2 folding seats, and for a few bucks you can have a second set of seat cushions made with comfort in mind. I had an extra inch of foam installed on new factory cushions and had them covered in blue! Now I have comfort when I want it and the original cushions for track days! They Velcro allows you to switch them out in less than 2 minutes!

Do yourself a favor and buy the RS!

I was in a similar position as you and chose a 997.2 GT3 non RS... Keep in mind that you'll be saving ~$15-20k as well...

My 2 cents.

Since you intend on owning a garage queen, a RS makes perfect sense. It is "collectable" and more interesting for a hot rod weekend driver.
A subtle color with graphics deleted would suit you well.
Lets face it, both cars have bigs wings to the general public eye so either car has boy racer merits.
If you intend to tuck this car away and be smitten by it for the next 10 years + than you want the RS version.

A non RS in a subtle color would also suit your needs, but if you are not daily driving it then why not go for the little bit extra in the excitement department?

Go RS. you will be glad you did.

Had you said you intend on daily driving it i would have said non RS.

Both versions are exciting 911s

RS

If you're going to get a 3 for all the reasons stated, you will be bummed if you don't go for the RS. Wider is better.

Budget not a concern - why wouldn't you get the RS?
The gearing alone is worth the price delta for street or track

You can decal delete it for a less ricer appearance

i also went for RS - had 996GT3 before as has been said you will get the GT3 and just lust after an RS - i did !! i got grey black with decal delete looks nice and also took the rear wing off makes rear view visibility much easier for daily driving - for track you can put it back on - but for day to day driving wing not that critical !!

Both excellent choices.

If I buy GT3, I will sometimes think why I don't get an RS.

If I buy RS, I don't need to think.

I don't like to waste time thinking, I just do it.

Go with the GT3. It is a lot of car, Look at the numbers, the GT3 is also a pretty rare car. I am glad I don't have ceramics.

RS with ceramics.

.1 looks just as good and will depreciate less as it is 20 30k cheaper to start with.
Same thrill and just as pretty in garage.

Get the comfy seats if you are not tracking it.

Money no object get pts .2 RS. Most have new sport seats and are also comfy enough.
