Gen 1 vs Gen 2 GT3RS
Hi all,
Looking to get opinions on whether to get an 07 GT3RS or a 10/11 GT3RS.
I am finding Gen 1 GT3RS in the 80-95K range and Gen 2 GT3RS for 115-125K. So, a 30K difference. I can swallow the 30k if it is worth it
Are both cars wide body? I understand the hp difference. Also Fastestlaps.com hast the Gen 2 beating the Gen 1 pretty well on most tracks.
Please chime in with opinions.
Thanks...

Can't comment on the Gen 1 RS, though I do think it's a fabulous car. I will say that my 2011 RS definitely has a "Cup Car for the street" feel.
Do you have a dealer near you where you can test drive one/both?
Ultimately, I don't think you can make a bad decision. This forum is a great place to get a better understanding of price/value, good options, good dealers, aftermarket service, you name it.
Oh, and when you make your choice, post pictures. We're simple like that...

Both are widebody.
.1 will run you 90-100k if you look hard enough.
85-90k is super hard to find in USA thid time of year.
.2 will run you 120-130k if you look hard enough.
20-30k delta is a big spread.
If you can budget that extra then take .2 for the better gearing and more power and warranty.
A .1RS for 85k in usa is a great buy however and perhaps the better deal in terms of depreciation.
A .2 still has room to move down over next year or so.

The 7.2 GT3 is the first GT3 in stock form that is significantly faster/better than its predecessors.
If you can find the extra cash get the newer car.

absolutely worth the price delta IMHO... gearing and displacement and downforce... .1RS vs .2RS
3.89 ring and pinion vs 3.44 -- and try buying that 3.89 ring and pinion loose from Porsche today...
the only downside is centerlock hubs (I say this with no experience but specialty tools for wheel changes, and service bulletins for track torqe values vs street, and grease, and cleaning and flying dust caps and water behind the dust caps... etc etc... all seems to be a pain in the a$$ for no real reason)
if it is of little consequence to you financially... as 911 slow said... in stock form it is a pretty sizable performance leap forward...
that being said... the .1RS is the looker of the two... :-)

Performance wise the mkII is definitely much more refined, sharper tool. If you have the financial means and planning to track than it is worth the delta.
For looks I'd rather have an orange (or white) mkI RS. God, I love that color! I think it looks a lot more distinct and unique.

I had a 997.1 GT3...non RS and now a 997.2 GT3RS
The 997.2 cars and 997.1 cars are apples and oranges
The 997.2 GT3RS is not a great car on the street due to gearing and no rear veiw from giant wing, but a monster on the track
What are your intentions for the car
For a dual duty / priced right car the 997.2 GT3 non RS is a steal at $95-100K. Much better than a 997.1 RS at 90-95K

Not worth 20k delta perhaps, but definitely worth a 10k delta.

The 997.2 is newer and has slightly more power which gives it the nod of the two.
That being said i wouldnt give up a 997.1RS for a 997.2 non RS.
Ask anybody with a 997.1RS and they will say the same.
It is a RS thing

If you can, go for the 997.2.
The marginal improvements are very noticeable, both in terms of handling and power.
Obviously your answer may vary depending on how much you plan to track (and mod) the car but in general if you can stomach the inevitable depreciation associated with a higher-priced car, do it and you won't regret.
