Time to formally introduce myself after a lot of lurking around…
Today I took possession of a 997.2 Guards Red GT3 with 18K miles on the clock.
I’ve had a number of 911s over the years but have wanted one of these for some time. Almost bought one 18 months ago but decided I needed rear seats. Turns out I really didn’t. But with GT3 prices going up instead of down I was resigned to the fact that it would be perhaps next year by the time I could get my hands on a 997.2. My must have options were bucket seats and white, red, or yellow exterior color. Those really accentuate the lines of the GT3.
On Sunday night 2 weeks ago a listing popped up on Autotrader by a Dodge dealership in San Antonio for a 2010 red GT3 with 18K miles. No photos, or other info, but I was able to pull the option list by decoding the VIN. Carbon buckets, check! Dynamic engine mounts, check! With some leather, red stitching, and carbon fiber thrown in the mix. But no wart!
I called first thing the next morning and negotiated the price over the phone pending inspection. I had already booked a trip to COTA for the WEC/Tudor race that weekend and figured I’d take a drive down to San Antonio to see the car.
When I got there, the car was as represented (including some upgrades) and everyone at the Dodge dealer was very helpful, especially the salesperson I worked with. I also got to speak with the previous owner who traded it in on a new Viper. They were literally asking 997.1 money for it so I paid for it right away and had it shipped. It arrived this morning.
I’ve driven a few of these but now that I actually own one I’m seriously impressed. Really loving the experience. I was only able to put 50 or so miles on it this morning since I had to be at the office, but man was it fun. Great power delivery, awesome suspension. It has the RSS muffler bypass and it screams in the upper RPM range. I was laughing so hard! Can't wait to get more time behind the wheel!
Anyway, I’m looking forward to spending more time here and learning and will probably use this thread for updates on my red GT3.
Here are a few pictures from this morning including a quick bath to remove all the dust from the trip up from San Antonio to New York.

And as luck would have it, I spend a little time playing with a green Viper I came across on the highway. If it wasn’t for that car I wouldn’t be writing this post...

I'm sure you're finding out it's much much more fun to drive than the Turbo
