Default new cheater part for GT3 - RAM AIR

new cheater part for GT3 - RAM AIR

Gavin at Autoquest in Fort Myer, FL has designed a new cheater part for the GT3 track rats crowd. This is for 997.1 GT3 and GT3RS and for the 997.2 GT3 (not for the 997.2 RS).

This is a bigger carbon fiber rear deck lid scoop for sucking more air into the engine at high speeds.

I had this installed on my 2010 GT3 (Blackie) before the 6 day David Murry / PCA 48 stretch at Sebring a few weeks ago. With all the 997.2 RS's as well as a few 4.0's, I was getting killed on the long straights at Sebring. They would simply drive away no matter how close I was on their *** coming out of the turns. Not even drafting less than a car length away would I be able to keep pace. Well, not anymore. With the RAM AIR scoop I can hang with the way more expensive RS's now.

Gavin has data showing 1-2 second gain on laptimes at Sebring (same day/driver testing). Estimates are between 20-25 hp gain above 100mph. This added 2 to 5mph at the end of the straights at Sebring.

Since my car is black it is hard to see in photos so I am posting pics from Gavin's personal white 997.1 RS.

Price is $1995 from Autoquest.

Gavin tells me that if you want a balanced look, he also makes a "dummy" for the other side. Since my car is black it is not noticeable only having it on one side.

VP that's brutal. Is that the "night rider"
Unlike many of you, I remember those days. Back in the day what I wished if I survived Vietnam was come home a get a '69 Z28 w/ a 302.
If I remember it was about $3,000.
My have things changed.

That's odd the blade looks identical to my RS. Just raised up more.

Is it static or dynamic?

Part of me will do almost anything for more power to keep up with .2's.
Part of me hates the price of this scoop.

Let's see which part wins...

More like, unglue.

2k for a scoop is borderline insane.

I think I have posted more about its benefits than anyone else but, that price is crazy high.
Hope it's a typo because the idea is solid.

Another option for the 7GT cars is the 997 Cup one-piece scoop.
It's slightly bigger than the street car covers and can be easily (and quite possibly cheaply) raised a couple of centimeters , maximizing the effect ..

Sold one here for 250 or something.

I'm surprised it made that much power. Although it's almost impossible to quantify as you can't simulate that much pressure into the scoop while on a dyno.

I know from when I tracked bikes, there was quite a bit of design that went into pressuring an air box and then tuning the engine/throttle body/injectors to utilize the extra air flow, and even then it didn't result in much. Just an added bonus since you're traveling at speed anyway.

If you can substantiate the extra power, that's a good deal for a bolt on part.
