24 Hours at Nurburgring endurance race in 2010. Roland Asch, Patrick Simon, Chris Harris and Horst von Saurma were the drivers. 13th overall at the end! Driven from Weissach to the Nurburgring...and back. Was on display at the Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen afterwards. Never cleaned up or washed since that race!

+1. Great point. I'm still fuming over that ploy...
I'm fine with all of the *predicted* changes to the 991-3, but hope that they don't get rid of the manual gear box. I really don't care that it is faster 0-60... Sifting is an art form, and few really master it. Without it, driving is less involved. I might as well just play video games in a cool sim and stay at home...

Absolutely
Good shifting is one of the primary things that differentiates really good drivers from OK drivers at the amateur level.
Coming into a series of tight corners under hard braking while snicking off a couple of perfectly rev-matched heel-and-toe downshifts while still hitting your line and keeping the car balanced is the real art. Banging down those same 2 downshifts by pulling on a paddle takes 50% of 'skill' out of the process. The PDK guy might get through as fast but has missed most of the fun and personal reward.

Now that we know the 991 GT3 will have a brand new, dry sump, motorsport engine that will be the basis for the next gen Cup engine (see New 991 GT3 exclusive pics thread), I'd say all of this worry over the 9A1 becomes completely irrelevant.

I'd also say that rosenbergendo guy wasnt talking out his ***!

OT but I am cuirous what kind of maintenance they did during the race on the car...I'd suspect they would have had to change pads and tires at a minimum. Did they have a pit crew?

rosenbergendo you input on the 991 GT3 from last years thread through to this years has been one of the most intriguing and informative. There have been so many detractors about this car (mostly 997 GT3 owners I suspect) but it was always destined to be a superlative product albiet moving on with the times. I too have stuck to my guns defending this car for 7 months and it looks like yoru information source has come through and hopefully most of my predictions too (still awaiting to lear about power output but the 350km ph speedo is a sure sign shell probably get very close to a 320km ph top speed).
Thanks you for your input on the 991 GT3. Its been accurate and insightful!
