According to this article/post, it seems GT3 will continue with the Mezger block.

It seems Porsche dealers in Europe are contacting their known clientele in order to get them to order the 2014 991 GT3 already. Information obtained in an e-mail from a user contacted is that the motor will be a 3.8 liter flat-6 using the GT1 block still (thank goodness) with dry sump naturally putting out 450 horsepower.
Other things seems to coincide with the what was posted in the this thread - 450HP and 7:34 lap time.

Oh, well I guess we will know in a month's time one way or another.

We just spent 10 pages in the GT3 sales pitch thread arguing (discussing?) how the 9A1 will ruin (or not) the new GT3 and now this source says it will still be the Mezger??
Actually, very cool, but the dueling info is making me crazy! Can't wait for the unveiling so I can start dealing with reality.......

The Lamborghini was well balanced but with an obvious hesitation between shifts.

The 458 was absolutely intoxicating!!! The engine and trans were as good as I've ever driven. You found yourself counting the seconds between shifts... Far from boring!

Granted I was on the very tight 1.2 mi infield course, still managed 110 on the front stretch each lap.

If the new GT3 is anything close I will not be disappointed...

I will qualify that...when I first drove my buddy's Scud, I was blown away. After owning one for a while, it was less engaging for me, than the RS with MT. Granted, I never tracked my Scud. The 458 with DCT is a different F1 system. The Scud is not DCT and in that respect, is probably MORE fun than the DCT because you really feel the shifts. Ask Rad...

In fact all you guys waiting for the 991 pdk better start selling the RS now to beat the large price declines coming soon

Yes..but I bet you the article is wrong..it will not use the old 997 GT3 engine. If Im wrong Ill send you a good french wine...if youre wrong - youll send me the best Calofornian wine...

But for me the two main questions are not be answerd - even after Geneva:

1. How well does the 991 GT3 do in the real world (Driver events etc. reliability)
2. What will the RS be like..-since it wont be available for antother 1,5 years..I will frist wait until the whole picture is complete..for the moment we are lost in the fog..

458 is only good on track - -for normal driving it's un-involving and quirky.

gt3 is much more rewarding - imo

Mooty, that RS 3.8 is pure perfection. Who needs a 991 if you have that in your garage!

Has anyone heard anything more specific about the date on which Porsche might begin to leak some information on the 991 GT3 ahead of the official debut in Geneva?

I heard "mid February" for some GT3 pictures. And that would be consistent with what other manufacturers seem to be doing (e.g. there are teaser pictures already out for the Alfa 4C, the Rolls Royce Wraith, Audi S3 etc.)

Blockbuster.

My take is we will get nothing official until the first few days of March when the press get a look see at Geneva. If anything occurs before then it will be forced by a leak.

Im very skeptical of the thread based on a dealers phone call. The information does not sound accurate.

The OP first thread here is of interest but again doesnt sound 100% accurate either.
I speculate starting 5 months ago on my thread called "The definitive Porsche 991 GT3" that we are talking a non Metz engine, probably 9A1 (or derivative) making 455bhp, PDK only, 8800+ RPM limiter , Ring time 7.30, 320kmph top speed, etc etc

The ring time quoted in a previous thread given by a dealer of 7.34 sounds low to me. Porsche test drivers were heard commenting a few months ago on teh ring (and reported by UK EVO magazine) as saying that the car was very quick already around 7.30 before final specification...

Pretty sure the final blow to the Mezger was EU emissions requirements for 2012.

That said, rumors were rampant that the 997.2 GT3 would have a 9A1 and PDK...

I agree. I 've seen no info on test driver's reports, but based on what appears fairly certain, the GT3 will have at least 50 more HP, a wider track, tweaked suspension, and probably lighter weight than the 991 S that did a confirmed 7:37.9. I don't see how it could reasonably fail to be quicker than 7:34.....
