Who's got links to lightweight parts?

Talked to my guy at Getty where I got my cup wing. Asked him about his carbon roof. He said it weighed 7 pounds. However, as mentioned by others here, you need a full cage as it's not structural.
I assuming the OEM (non sunroof) metal panel must be heavier and have some structural support there as obviously there's no cage required with that piece.

Where did you get those measurements?
What are the actual weights of the OEM (non sunroof) roof panel and the carbon fiber panel?

OEM roof from a 2008 997 car with Carrara white color is 16,3 lbs.
Carbonfiber roof is 4,9 lbs.
I have weighed them myself.

Makes sense. Getty's was 6 pounds with fiber reinforcement of some sort.
The 2008 OEM roof you weighed, that was a non-sunroof piece right?

Interesting. Lighter roof panel in carbon but then you need to add 20 pounds of bar underneath for safety. Trade off's I guess.
Having seen the underside of the OEM metal roof skin, how is it structurally different than the carbon that it doesn't require the full cage?

Andrew...GMG is installing a carbon roof but make no mention of a full cage needed. Are they doing something different?
I can remove 12lbs from my car with the push of a button and leave this part in the pits! LOL

You got me curious. Spoke to Fabryce at GMG. Basically what you and Peter said. Metal comes out, roof goes in.
As Peter said, no structural reinforcement on the metal oem roof skin.
It is crashed test though, where the carbon is not.
He didn't know what happens if your car goes upside with the carbon panel and they make that disclaimer. I'm guessing the roof panel doesn't do a lot since I have to believe a 15 pound thin steel panel isn't doing much of anything in a crash.
So what are the downsides to using carbon then? Maybe it breaks apart? Seems like you'd be sitting in a hurricane of carbon shards even if you had the cage.

Getty Design sells the carbon roof, they state that you should have a full cage...I am not 100% sure, but I think it is there to cover there asses

I got to the bottom of it. I spoke to Mark at Getty. It's nots so much the structural integrity of the roof panel, it's the fact that the carbon panel is glued in versus the OEM steel which is welded.
I'm sticking with the steel OEM. Yes, it's 10 pounds heavier, but it is much safer should the worse case happen without a full cage. It will still be about 40 pounds lighter than my current OEM sunroof setup with no safety compromises.

Good detective work Deputy. Have you thought about doing a solid metal roof like the RoW GT3 came with?

If you must, in order:
Regear, full suspension, adjustable shocks, lightweight springs, Delete sunroof, rear bumper, Ti exhaust side muffler delete, no radio or speakers, light weight carpet, lexan for rear and side windows LWFW, light battery, you probably already have, lightweight steering wheel , super light wheels remove sprayers and bottle from head lights..
You can still drive it comfy on the street, can make it stock again and it will be faster then gutting it.
