"Compared with conventional rubberbonded metal mounts, ball-joint suspension mounts permit more precise wheel control and more sensitive damper response. This enables more direct steering behaviour and enhanced performance potential. On the 911 GT3 RS, several suspension mounts on the front and rear axles were already realised as ball joints. To further enhance performance, the new 911 GT3 RS 4.0 features additional ball joint-type mounts on the multi-link rear axle. These are located on the inside of the lower wishbone and on the inside of the tie rod. The highest forces occur at these locations during cornering and these forces can now be transmitted directly to the vehicle without elastic deformation. This significantly improves the feeling for the driver at the rear axle. A further ball joint is located between the wheel carrier and spring"

That almost sounds, but not quite, like it could be implying a rear monoball shock mount since they mentioned the spring. If so, that would be a part that Tarett and others sell. I have the Tarett part - you can see it on his site or in the picture right here

"3. Rear lower shock mount solid mount.
#3 requires you to change out the carrier$. How committed are you?"
But I could be confusing separate parts of his post, hence the request for clarification.

Yes, that is it. Must change carrier to 2RS/4.0 PN to get a solid joint here. It makes a big difference for such a "small" joint. $$ and effort to make this one happen. Carrier is not so costly, but it is a lot of work. We will see who the seriously afflicted are when we get some pics of this being changed out!

It would be some cost savings if he could do that. Post up his response? As I recall the OE 2RS/4.0 carriers are surprisingly low-cost. $400 each I think.

+ these. Then forget about it. There's a reason the 4.0 gets them from the factory. I'm a believer after using rear LCA monoballs. Tarret makes a great piece, super easy to install.

Yes, I had those on my 996 4 liter, along with other Tarett bits. IMO, they are the best in the biz.

I would put the monoballs on the rear LCA, add the toe-links and stop there. To me, molesting the front gains primarily harshness. Think about it, there is no weight up there except for braking. The rear does everything. '11RS is so good out of the box. Unless you are running Hoosiers, adding a bunch of camber creates other problems- dartiness and tail wag under braking.

How is this rubber joint affect alignment and handling? Not a pivot point? If this rubber joint flex and change alignment, then the upper suspension mount rubber bushing will be doing the same thing too. So I do not understand how this rubber bushing affect handeling?

Drug this thread up from the dead...
There has been a bunch of discussion on the 4.0 suspension on this thread. Can anyone tell me exactly how the 4.0 differs from the "regular" GT3's?
Sounds like monoball contol arm pivots and rod end toe links, but does the 4.0 still have rubber caster pucks and rubber in the dog bones, etc...
Thanks!

toe link is monoball on chassis side.
there are tons of differnece. it's not listed by porsche marketing material
we have RS4.0 and 3.8 parked side by side. we think the tranny case is different. but i am not sure.
