Yep. Opponent found all sorts of "scheduling excuses" not to show up. However, we were going to use identical & equally prepared fully-caged 944's on a wide open track w/o walls. Big difference to DE cars at Sebring.

Hmm. Can you say that about the person who threw down this challenge? In addition, you used to race? In what? Lemme guess: it was fully caged, with fire system, etc., and you wore Nomex, right?

Come on.

I remember! I thorougly enjoyed that exchange years ago... Good point on the walls. Replacement costs on a 3.8 GT3 RS take it to another level!

Ian ran a 2:18.6 on PS2 at Sebring during the 2009 One Lap. We did put some Hoosier R100's on for a couple of laps at Sebring before the 2009 UTCC fast was around a 2:16 in July. Weren't real happy with the R100. Corded the rears in 4 TT sessions during UTCC. To put this in perspective the GT2 had 465 rwhp and weighed 3250#. Ian thinks the .2 RS is as fast as the GT2.

IMO, there is no way the .2RS runs 2:16's at Sebring w/o some serious cheater parts.

Maybe on Michelin Slicks with Pat Long driving...

I think 2:18's is a stretch.

That doesn't make sense, only 2 seconds from PS2's to slicks. You guys definitely didn't get the most from those R100's. No way a .2 RS is as fast as that GT2 was.

My car is similar, a little under 3200 and 489 whp, but is gutted so that's pretty amazing for you to have still had AC and all that and be so light. (Of course I'm 225 though).

Did you cord the inside edge?

Yep inside edge, tire temps were 20 degrees from inside out and pressure was 30# as Hoosier recommend. Jeff Spears was there and he had no answer

Ian only ran around 6 laps on the slicks at Sebring and he never got a clean lap.

Not that it helps you now but car was bumpsteering (toe out) under load causing the inside tire to wear prematurely. A tarett toe arm with bumpsteer and about a 1.5" spacer to lower the pickup point would have eliminated that. You are one of several that have had this issue. Took me almost a year to figure out. 996's do not like really low ride heights.

Amazingly regular DOT R-comps and street tires are hardly affected by this condition. The slicks are sensitive, especially the hoosiers.

Sorry, no more off topic: back to the battle royale.

this challenge sounds great....I may have to come watch all the way from chicago...

btw...I'm certainly no lawyer - - but I can only imagine if something bad happens, ....lawyers would have a field day with what was said on this board......just my humble opinion.....

- Challenge can be at Sebring, Homestead, PBIR. Not traveling a million miles to do this.

- A full tank of fuel in my Fiat lasts around 30 minutes, there is no way the car will handle a 45 minutes stint on a fuel tank, but it can handle (2) 25 minutes sessions. Refueling affects # of laps completed, and it shows nothing for droving skills.

- NASA-TT runs for 25 minutes sessions, so fastest lap in session counts.

- Using Traqmate, we can use the NASA-TT session and use the average from all the flying laps (warmup and cool down not timed). This would not work if NASA merges HPDE-4 with TT because traffic is horrific.

- Challenge should focus on drivers rather than cars, so I would like best laps in each car to count, each driver runs in both cars, to eliminate any car advantage over the other, I should say, to eliminate the 2 secs faster lap times the 3.8RS produces over the Fiat.

- 3.8RS is a $135k car , my Fiat is a $170k car, 4.0RS is a $200k, can't see how the Fiat is $100k more expensive. If price makes a car faster, why are you not running DE Cup with a Rolls-Royce Phantoms?

- Daytona is not fair, except the speedway, the turns are too slow, and at slow turns, cheater Aero Beetle wings offer very little help, so it would not be fair to the Aero Beetle boys.

- There are cheater parts (massive long list) in each Aero Beetle in the area.

- I'm ok with a dyno challenge, both cars on the dyno the same day, but my car will lose to any Aero Beetle, only puts 397whp down against Aero Beetles in the 460whp range, so kind of a pointless challenge.
