Just had mine in for the preventative fix (Sharkwerks Pinning). Approx. 29,000 miles on the clock. Low and behold...

This is just brutal. We all know this is inevitably going to happen. I have thought about this since last year's driving season and decided might as well get it done. Well, right now I'm just feeling so lucky that I didn't get stranded out in the backroads I love to frequent. At least now I have this concern off the table and can enjoy the ride even more.
Porsche should have done the right thing and rectified this for all owners.
Also took advantage of the engine removal to replace water pump (an issue for other 997's but apparently not the GT1 block, but tech suggestion taken), also had 50/50 on the clutch and flywheel so did it in advance too (pay now or pay later with the engine Re & Re). Ouch!

Really sorry to hear. Where will you bring to be repaired?

Taking it to my race crew chief (ACE Motorsports in Vista, CA). The engine is fine. Everything else with the car is fine. Just need to secure the hoses better. Apparently, even a street car is susceptible to this problem.

Yep, absolutely. And these other cars in your street stable are affected too.

2011 GT3 RS 4.0
2004 GT3

Glad no damage, I've seen these let go on track and its not pretty when the cars behind go spinning. Hopefully not tagging anything.

I can only imagine. Thanks for the heads up on the other two.

Has anyone tried fitting the motorsport parts instead of the street car parts? Or are they incompatible?

Motorsports parts have same issue as I've understood from my shop who rebuilds a lot of cup car motors. They weld these too. The difference is that motorsports guys will time out the housing that is most affected. I'm unsure if they are compatible with the street cars. Additionally, street cars will typically go through a lot more hot/cold cycles than a race car.

Hergesheimer Motorsport in Lake Forest did mine and the car has been problem-free ever since. I also recommend Vision Motorsport in Laguna Hills. They do excellent work.

BBI Autosport will weld with their custom billet inserts
GSR Autosport does pinning

BBI did mine, been flawless and many, many track days. They weld every engine that gets dropped, regardless of reason if it hasn't been done. They were doing a couple of them last week.

2007 turbo, 21k mi, had engine out for trans work, pinned and replaced with sharkwerks metal pipes while in there. Three of the fittings literally fell out of the water pump, others were leaking.

Just curious on this... I've seen some debate on pinning vs. welding, and my takeaway is it's pretty much 6 of one / half dozen of another. What's most important is that you do one of 'em.

That said... I see many posts where people have had some of their fittings partially out when they do this service. How do shops that do pinning deal w/ fittings that are partially out? Do they push it back in and then pin? Do they pull it, clean it, re-glue and pin? Or, do they use welded connections at (only) the locations where the fittings backed out and pin the rest?
