Default Pretty happy with the K&N airbox

I just installed a K&N airbox and am pretty happy with it. Sorry didn't do a base line dyno and after so just have to comment on the way it feels/sounds. I've attached a dyno chart from K&N who claim +24bhp. Does it feel like +24bhp? Probably not. More like +10bhp. Nicer sound though together with the GMG center muffler delete I put on. Looking at it the design just gives you the impression that it provides more positive pressure for that sought after Ram effect. Kinda like a Cup car design without the deck lid. Mk 1 users will like this. What the heck, for us$300 it's a no brainer.

remove filter cloth immediately

I have same set up and my tech dyno'd it...

so they claim 25 hp or so...

here is how they get there:
sport off, stock air box
then sport on, kn box, no sock on filter and gains are above 6500 rpm or so...

I think it is a no brainer as well
I dig it

Will add/validate to PJS as both of us experienced simular results which was +pos.
What is good about the design is the longer intake runner as it is better for resonance. The way they figure 25 is worst case to best peak as most always seem to advertise/market. We did not attain or was sold b/c of the 25HP claim but, at $300, was cheap performance gain that actually works.
No cels, no blown out mafs.

OK, zoo keeper is away so I get to escape my cage for a second.

OEM airbox is lighter, minimize heat soak with lower air intake temperature and make more hp and torque. It is still the best intake design for our street going GT3/RS

OEM lighter - didn't weight it but can't be true just on the size and the weight when I carried it by hand vs the K&N.

Less heat soak - Looks like both are comparable

More hp and torque - like I said I don't think K&N claims of +24bhp are right but definitely there's an increase.

Best design - if that is so then why is the cup car so different? Why is there an improvement on the Mk2 design?

I have no affiliation with K&N so this is purely unbiased.

Longer intake runner better for resonance? Not true at all on the GT3 , the oem filter has a larger space to suck air from at the back and also features a velocity stack ring to maximaze air flow.

Mike stay out of the cage!

Because I have a serious problem in my head I pretty much have tested on a dyno almost every filter and combination availiable for the gt3 including a similar assembly made by AP in Germany.
Every one of them excluding the 2500usd GruppeM airbox lost hp and torque on the dyno either low down or midrange and some cut top power too compared to the oem airbox with a free flowing panel filter.
When engine bay got hot things were even worse.
Especially this design with the elbow and the tube was terrible very little air volume inside and ramair effect not possible with the small airbox end and the round filter at the end.
So guys save your money and just get a decent panel filter for the oem airbox. Good tuners even when cars run the 3.9 4.0 liters kits stay with oem box.

BTW KN DOESN’T DYNO ALL CARS! I quote
“Horsepower claims are the result of specific or similar vehicle dynamometer testing. It would be impractical to test every possible vehicle configuration or year in which a particular engine may be used; in these cases, our claims are representational based upon similar engine/vehicle dyno tests. Based upon our engineering experience, we believe our horsepower claims are reliable”

Yeah right you beleive.

Yes, I did all the home work and weigh everything. As I have said, OEM airbox is the best design for street going GT3/RS. Cup/RSR airbox is not for street
