Does the car have to be reprogramed for a battery other than the oem spec? I know the BMW guys were having issues with batteries exploding when they installed light weight units without reprogramming.

This is from the voltphreaks website:
* POSSIBLE IMCOMPATIBILITY
Lithium batteries could be incompatible with some (not all) Porsche GT cars. We have heard from some customers that their GT's alternator may not maintain the right voltage to charge a lithium battery. We are not aware of any other cars that show this behavior.
Are they ok for a GT3 or no? Anybody here actually using one?

This was discussed here back in 2010:

It looks that they've now added a disclaimer.

Hi all, Tony from Voltphreaks here. Was notified of this thread by 911SLOW, and have signed on as a sponsor. Hope everyone is well! Some answers to some things brought up:
1. Possible GT2/GT3 incompatibility. Yes this is true. If you have a GT2/GT3, it doesn't mean you can't use a lithium battery, it just means you have to make sure your GT2/GT3 is compatible. Measure voltage, it should be no lower at the lowest (idle with loads on like headlights, fan, etc) than the low 13's (13.2V+, etc). When engine is revving and normally, voltage should be near or higher than 14V, but not higher than 14.6V. (more details).
2. The battery shouldn't require the car to be reprogrammed, but we can't guarantee that since we don't have experience with every car out there. From past users, reprogramming isn't required, but I don't want to make a false guarantee.
Details of group buy to follow. Thanks all! - Tony

Tony: I have a 2012 US Boxster Spyder. The Porsche lithium battery was a factory option on my model. I assume that means that your lithium battery would be compatible on my Spyder. Let me know. Thanks.

Yes, I would assume it would be compatible, wouldn't make sense if it wasn't!
