The question is: Keep my '07 GT3 or go for the '10 GT3?

They'd probably have to call it an RS
Once they've done it with the Boxster, I think it would be hard to close the door on the Cayman, especially if Cayman sales are down and if the Spyder reinvigorates Boxster sales.

I still wish Porsche had built a mid-engine GT3 - I would have spent the same money.

Porsche already made special versions of the 986, and 987.1 Boxster and Cayman.

The first Boxster Spyder (550 Spyder edition) in 2004, with a following one in 2008 (RS60 Spyder) and now the 2011 Boxster Spyder.

Cayman S Sport was released in 2008, and another coming in 2011. Expect the same, ac delete with optional free AC, radio delete with optional free radio, Boxster Spyder wheels, a stiffer suspension, a little extra power (10 Hp at most), standard GT2 seats, a $10k increase in MSRP, and most likely called Cayman Sport.

The Cayman S is already killing the base 911 (Carrera) at all the racetracks, numbers are out there, the Cayman S is already keeping up with the Carrera S 3.8 lap times, check GrandAm qualifying at Daytona and keep watching the series this year, and also check the Car and Driver test at VIR.

I wouldn't buy out your leased car. If you can afford it, lease or purchase, get the 10 GT3. I can tell you want it bad. To try and rationalize from a cost perspective is fruitless. These cars are about passion and fun! I'll bet if you get it you'll have no regrets. It is a striking car.

Actually my car isn't leased ... the OP's is ...

apologies for inadvertantly hijacking the thread with my own addiction/dilemma!

The '07 lease is up in May. I know that there are several '10's languishing on lots around the country and could probably get one as a new DD.

So, do I buy the '07 that I love to drive every day or turn it in for the '10? (if I can find one spec'ed to my liking?)

What do you gentlemen say who have moved on from the 997.1 to the 997.2; were the improvements worth the change or do any of you feel that you could have been just as happy with keeping your 997.1's?
sorry for hijacking your thread ...

BTW do you know what your residual/buyout would be - is it a good deal given the mileage on the car?

there is a good comparison article between a 6Mk1, 7Mk1, & a 7Mk2 in the "GTPorsche" Jan. '10 mag.
They do the test @ Hockenheim w/ pro driver Wolfgang Kaufmann. the new car is 1.5 sec faster than 7Mk1, and 3.5 sec faster than 6GT3.
Kaufmann could not say enough + things about the new car versus the 7Mk1, and more so the 6GT3.
another article talks about the new car off the track...impressive.

Leif,

I would turn in your lease if you can find a GT3 to your liking. It's a buyers market. The dilemma that most car buyers face today is that - there are great deals on new cars - but you take a major hit on your trade in - so financially is it a wash at best? I suspect that you don't have that issue with your lease?

Actually, of the additional info was helpful !
the buy out of my '07 is 70K.

still on the fence...like the idea of taking the70k and maybe putting a completely different animal in the garage but I really like the GT3 as a DD.

just for kicks; I am also picking up a '71 pristine 240Z to replace the car I had in college and loved so much...they are actually at an early point of appreciation and should be fun to get back in one of those

I think it's interesting ... dont you that Porsche thinks a GT3 with 30k miles on it is worth 68-70k ...

imagine if you or I put our cars up for sale today with 30k miles on them, can you imagine any RL'er paying 70k for such a high mileage car?

30K is high mileage? That's only 10K miles a year for an '07.

"can you imagine any RL'er paying 70k for such a high mileage car?"

I did, paid more with even a little more miles for a 6GT3 just as the economic tsunami was hitting in late 08.
Does this make me a fool or just unlucky?

Quick Reply: The question is: Keep my '07 GT3 or go for the '10 GT3?
