Do the Turbos (997TT) also have this RMS issue? They have basically the same Mezger GT1 engine.

With sales way off, methinks Porsche is trying to reduce warranty expenses. Having read this thread, I'd be wary of modifying the cup holders, it might invalidate the warranty on the ECU

This is interesting to say the least...
IMHO there are too many examples of it happening without any mods to claim the mods did it...just my $.02
How's Ferrari/Maserati warranty performance?

However...the scud I drove at 7/10 was 20mph faster then my GT3 everywhere on the track. Damn.

Hehe I got us all started on the cup holders now Having said that though so far it's just one dealer and one instance here and there so we'll see. I also talked to some friends in service at two local dealers here and guess what, they have 3 cars with RMS' leaking that they're warrantying. One has our bypass, two are stock and then one is actually getting a bypass put on The bigger change in back-pressure in stock form is when you actually open the valves to bypass the side mufflers so guys had better now use that for fear of leaking

In Porsche's defense, they designed a very highly strung engine for the GT3 and most value its inherent race-bred qualities because of it. Porsche engineers may have reached the outer limit of the envelope as far as road cars are concerned (and the associated expectations regarding reliability). I find it hard to accept that it should be "normal" for such a beautifully engineered machine to leak, but again this is no ordinary machine.
Is there any warning about infrequent usage in Porsche's literature regarding the GT3 (owner's manual or otherwise)?
Porsche may have made a peculiar business decision by denying claims using unsubstantiated (or poorly argued) motives (i.e modifications), but I'd be even more concerned if Porsche's engineering department didn't come up with a sound solution to the RMS issue. In fact, it may be that executives decided to put RMS warranty claims on hold while waiting for a definitive technical solution, then issue a recall for affected vehicles.
Porsche has an unsurpassed reputation for the quality and reliability of its high performance products, let's hope this philosophy hasn't changed in Weissach.
Regards,
Chris
