toby in a nut-shell (sorry I can't go through the entire thread here.. I only have so much more time before the wife shoots me) which way should I go on my gt2:P So many choices... Not sure yet if I'm dumping the VTG set up for more of a gt30 etc... Of course I don't really want to cut the crap out of the cages but...

Kaiizu, Thanks for sharing that info and those pics, it looks like that RS 996GT2 racer has those same Manthey intake pods doesn't it ?
I'm going to try and find out whether my memory is correct about Manthey's aborted development of 997 pods and the reasons why, I think a nicely designed carbon pod would be a sweet and functional addition to a tuned 997 turbo.

You got a 7GT2, that is awesome

If you want to build a fire breathing monster which lights up the tyres with a wiff of the throttle, that is another story but for an extremely fast balanced useable package I think one should look no further than the GT2RS.

The GT2RS has very few engine mods compared to the cooking GT2 and importantly uses the same VTGs. As soon as you mess with the factory VTGs you change the character of the car and not necessarily for the better.

I would go with GT2RS intercoolers, 200 cell cats (get these welded in place of factory) and a conservative tune (there really is no point in going aggressive with a tune since these VTGs run so damn hot anyway and any hp gained in 1st second and third gear will be be lost in heat when you get into fourth) boost levels no more than 1.5/1,6bar. You'll need the 890NM clutch and I would strongly advise a Guard billet LSD (they really transform the traction and handling).
You can have 820NM and 620-640hp and a rocket ship which can transfer its torque to the tarmac, with 0-125mph in 9.5s ish and the great response of the standard VTGs.

Keep us posted with what you do and of course one of your legendary build threads with pics is obligatory

Thanks man! Super excited and can't wait to get started on playing with it. I'm too old and grumpy to bother with 3bar 2000hp stuff and the amount of heat with the VTG's is certainly a concern. Even on stock turbos/tune I know of two local cars that got tracked a lot and had VTG failures... Relieving back pressure would have helped obviously... It actually has a bunch of stuff we've installed on it over the years like that 890nm clutch set up in there and even a chromoly Guard LSD unit. Motons will have to go as for the street they're a bit too much for this fella. I'd love to have about 620-650 with minimal lag. Maybe the LWF flyhweel if I can find out whether the IMS is the same as the GT3 one vs the crappy turbo one with the bolts that back out... I'd like to use the Emmitec 200 cell cats and maybe my silly shark pipes in back for more sound/flow too. Of course James will want to use our/evo billet crank and... I just want to drive it

GT2RS 997.2TT ic's eh? Champ/EVOs do use some german cores but the 2rs ones just slot in so...

I really think these cars were under appreciated. So NOT a 997TT that's for sure...

This is the car:

Default cores

Hi
Dose anyone know what intercooler cores i should use.
The core size i have in mind is 9X14X3.5.
I have the possibility to to make the end tanks as i like due to turbo placement and custom inlet pipes and intake manifold.
Replacement IC dose not fit vey well so i really need to build some new ones.
"This is for a track car"

Best regards

IIRC Setrab sells nowadays documented cores in several sizes. Ie you just don't have to believe that "our cores are by far the best ones without any proof" -scheisse but can yourself check the properties from their documents.

Thanks for the point-out. Some very interesting literature from Setrab. Their numbers show that, properly ducted, 17-20% of vehicle speed is how fast cooling flow moves through an intercooler core. That would make a case for good fans on the back of the coolers...hmmm

Emil,
You should look after the temperature efficiency of the cores.

I got to see the Alzen 997 race turbo at the Essen show this week and it has some interesting stuff for this thread.

Here is the thread relevant stuff

It is the last picture which was most interesting to me, that extra bit of bodywork appears to have the sole purpose of providing an even bigger exit for the air which has gone through the intercooler cores....

Another intercooler intake, this one hit 400kph so can't be too bad on the drag front
