I turned a 1:31:731 in my Spec Box during qualifying.
that's impressive. do u know what tires the gt3 had? i've never been to WSIR but it seems quite fast and lots of room to stretch the legs so i'm surprised at this result.

mike, we might have to go down there and try it for ourselves! i just watched the jack olsen video and it looks like a fun track especially that last turn

Kevin always ran MPSC's, while the Spec Box's are on R888's

Unless you're running a NASCAR racetrack, or something with lots of long straights, you'll be fighting to keep a BSR to eat your GT3 at every turn, slow turn, fast turn.

The 996 GT3 is 700 lbs heavier, and the heavy butt just wants to break away when cornering at the limits.

There are plenty of lap times from Time Trials and Club Races as proof. Streets of Willow, Willow Springs, Cal Speedway, Buttonwillow, Laguna Seca, Vegas Speedway. The information is out there, I checked on this before getting into a BSR.

I can take out another 200 lbs easily from the BSR, it won't be BSR legal, but a 2,250 lbs (no fuel) BSR just needs 300 Hp to match the power/weight ratio of a 997 GT3 RS, and 375 Hp to match the one of a 997 GT2. Both figures can be easily achieved with a 3.4 and 3.8 respectively, and these engines are so cheap that it's hard not think about it.

say a cherry cherry donar car at $30k
motor with install at $20k
and $40K to cover liposuction, CF pieces, LSD, deferred maintenance, labor and blah blah....
oh, i am in so much trouble.

Why a 3.8 X51 when you can have a 2009 DFI 3.8? More torque, more power, higher redline, more reliable, and you'll be running a stand alone ECU anyway (is a race car). I will find out price this week, it should be cheaper as this is the standard 997.2 engine, and remember to use your 10% POC/PCA discount and buy it out of state.

I would say take a cherry BSR donor car, engine swap, LSD and ready to go. Save the $40k lipo.

So most of you are saying the 2500lbs 200bhp BSR is as fast as a GT3, then in theory the Lotus Exige S or Cup Car should be even faster than this? Then why (including my own experience) is the Lotus faster than a GT3 around any track?
WHAT? I run with the lotus challenge guys and my street 6-gt3 is faster then every one of the lotus cups (even at a short technical track). I'm even hanging with the 211 for now, until the driver gets better.

good point. i didn't think the pricing list was out for the DFI.
hum.... too bad new cay s only has 3.4 at 320hp.
otherwise, i can just get the new cay, remove all the crap inside the cabin (wt) and i am done. much easier since i dont know how to work on my own cars.

oh, add LSD.

new cay will be here march.... i'll chk one out.

Sorry, my bad (typo). It should have said: " Then why, including my own experience, the Lotus IS NOT faster than a GT3 on any track?". In fact, only on Pocono East (tight technical bumpy with top speed <110mph) I'm faster in the Lotus than in the 997S. Against a GT3, it stands no chance. So if the Lotus has more power and less weight than a BSR, how can a BSR be faster or as fast as a GT3?

I can see how a 3.4 (300hp+) BSR can be as fast (and more fun) than a GT3, but not a chance with only 200hp, IMO.

Agreed, it was a Typo from my part. I demolish my own Lotus Exige S lap times in my (formerly) own 997S (Slower than a GT3).
