what do you think of this replacement for my GT3
I was probing my wife (verbally) about possibly replacing our GT3 and replacing my AMG with a 2010 or 2011 Carrera S.
If the economy slows down even more I think ordering one in that time frame may work. I even asked her what color she would like and she didnt go off the deep end and suggested GT silver. I told her I would order an automatic so she could drive it to work if she so desired. I didnt tell her that Porsche just came out with the worlds best auto and more people are ordering the PDK than the manuals( thats what I heard) But hey she thinks I am ordering it for her.
If its close in price to a GT3 then I have to hesitate. But given my back problems I thought the S would work better for me.
Isnt the S pretty quick? I have never ordered one from the factory and I think it would be fun to do it once.
I was thinking PCCBs and the GT2 seats which appear to be a 4K option

The PDK is great (tried it out at Barber and i am a stick guy)), but make sure you get a limited slip. I understand your quandary I want to get one for the wife, but the selfish part of me wants to wait for the GT3. I need another car like a hole in the head.... just like you!

on street, the 997 isnt much softer than 7gt3 imo.
and if optioned up, the price is similar to 7gt3 (comparing the old 997S to old 997GT3 of course)
i would do PCCB, no brainer.
LSD yes.
the 4000 GT2 with airbag is a bargain. they are 6-7k at suncoast. these are slightly wider than 996gt3 seats and MUCH wider than 997gt3 seats.

Just picked up my '09 C2S yesterday and I'm very impressed with everything about it. I decided to trade in the Cayman S (would have had too many cars to keep up) missed the Cayman for about 5 minutes , but not any omre the new Carrera S is fantastic and the PDK impressive. Only put 50 miles on it yesterday and mostly highway but WOW. Best of both worlds and only 20+ Hp less than the GT3. right out of the box 30 MPG at 75 What a great looking and fantastic handling economy cat that will flat get up a go. More later. My specs are:
Artic silver with sea blue interior. Adaptive sports seats (heated) PDK and LSD (PASM is standard and I did not want the lower PASM for ease of getting in and out. Bose, Ipod and bluetooth (great bluetooth made easier with nav screen) Silver seat belts, Nav. I ordered it with the standard wheels but had the dealer put my BBS RSGT forged wheels on before delivery I will send pictures. Take care

I liked driving my C2S more than driving my RS, street use though. Now that the C2S has 996GT3 seats and harnesses it is not as comfortable. The stock seats were very comfortable and the ride was a lot better than the RS.

As far as being quick, the new 997 S is VERY fast. I was genuinely surprised when I drove one. It's much, much quicker than the 997.1 S I had. Good luck and feel better!!

Hey Paul, good to know you're back on the ''what next porsche'' hunt. Personally for a street car, I wouldn't spend (politically correct for not wasting) the money on PCCB. As for the seats, I would really try them before ordering. Since your back isn't the best, I would be a shame to spend 4K on an option that makes you hate the car.
Good luck and keep us posted.

The new folding GT2 seats are beautiful and comfortable but I was surprised at how little headroom they offer. My head was almost in the headliner (without a helmet) and the height is non-adjustable.

I think Cargraphic has lowering brackets for the 997 GT3 buckets, they might have some for the GT2 style seat as well.
OG, you can't go wrong with the new carrera! Try the different seats first before ordering them to see which suit you best.

I started with a factory ordered 2005 Carrera S (my first and only new car!) after I declined to purchase a silver 996 GT3 w/500 miles on it in Boston because I felt they wanted too much for the car. I didn't know the allure of the track at that point.
So I drove my Carrera S and went to my first DE event. I was hooked. BAD. After a year and half of that, reclining my seat so much because my helmet rubbed against the roofliner (I'm tall) I looked into putting seats in the S. I couldn't butcher the car. It's too nice.
So then I put a deposit in on a 997GT3 but got to thinking. For slightly more than trading in for the 997 GT3 I could pick up a lightly used 996 GT3 and if I didn't drive the S I could sell it and be about even. GT3 has bar, seats, fire ext., toe-links, aggressive alignment, R-comps etc. I don't like it as a street car. The ride home from Chicago made my mind up. I had a headache from the droning and pounding and my ears were ringing for 2 days.
So in a way, driving the GT3 and the Carrera S made me appreciate each more. S is a much better street car. GT3 a much better track car. Make a compromise and get a compromise.
So the S is still in my garage.
I did notice that after my PS2s corded and I switched to Bridgestones the ride was quieter and less harsh especially over expansion joints. For spirited driving on twisty roads the Carrera S is more than capable. The heated power seats in the S are far easier to get in and out of compared with the fixed back buckets I have in the GT3.
Long distance driving neither are all that great. Tire roar on the interstate is the problem. My 540i is much quieter.
I drove an '09 Carrera 4S w/PDK a few weeks ago. I came away very impressed. Test drive one. I'm sure you'll like it. If you're going to spend this much $$$ I'd factory order again if buying new but I'd go for European delivery.

Go for it OG. I'm getting the GT2 buckets and if I don't like them I'll sell 'em, buy regular sport seats, and pocket the profit. As Mooty mentioned the option price compared to what they are going for on the secondary market makes them pretty much a no-brainer.
