My back is also terminally bad with Doctors not very pro operation. I have three discs totally degenerated in my lower spine that affects my legs. The classic sciatic issues. I have found the adaptive sport seats are the best for me. As a reference I am 5'9" and weigh 160. Not only are these seats very supportive in the back and thigh areas but the fact I can adjust them on the move and frequently is a real plus. The inflatable lumbar and the ability to move it up and down is also very helpful. Heated seats are a must even in Texas. My back is also the reason we traded my wife's Lexus for a Cayenne GTS the seats

Old Guy, I must be pretty closely in tune with my inner geezer. I also got rid of a GT3 (albeit an RS), purchased a C63, and am now considering a c2s with PDK vs waiting for a facelift GT3 (+/- RS).

Total MSRP is $90,390, total purchase price $81,000 (10.3% discount). Did not like the GT3 bucket seats - no adjustment whatsoever is possible and my helmet had my head pointing at the dials instead of out the window. If the GT2 buckets allowed at least some adjustment in seat back angle (like the pump on the sport seats), I would have gone with them.

The 2009 C2S is VERY fast, and I found the ride of the new suspension to be right between the old 997S and the GT3. On "sport", it felt more like the GT3 suspension on normal.

I never understood the attraction of PCCB... Everyone I know that got them for track duty ended up switching over to steel rotors and then had all sorts of pad options. And for the street, steel brakes are more than enough and don't have the negative issues in the wet that PCCB has. $8k for what?

For $81,000, I've got a very sport oriented wickedly quick "sleeper" that I can drive every day of the week and also enjoy at the track. Really is a great value.
Don't you miss the higher redline in the GT3?

There are a few things I'll miss about the GT3, but as outlined in my post elsewhere here at RL, there are reasons I'm choosing to change back. If not for the new 2009's DFI engine, new PASM Sport suspension, and the new Limited Slip Differential, I'd be keeping the GT3.

Paul,

The 2009 Porsche Carrera S is a great car. You don't need a hard core Porsche, unless you'll be running track days, autoX, time trials or Club Racing quite often. I think a GT3/GT2 for street use is a waste of money, 65mph top speed with such long gears, and too many compromises (ride height, stiff clutch pedal, road noise, lack of comfort amenities, thirsty engine, stiff ride).

You have the option to get the PDK. Don't get PCCB, instead use the option money to get a nice set of wheels with Pilot Sport Cups that you can use at a track day if you want to run 1-3 of these events per year. The MPSC should be good for three years, and wheels always have a decent resale value.

I would get it with the Sport-PASM, the car is 20mm lower and you get the LSD. I had a ride in a 09 Carrera S with the Sport-PASM and the car was soft compared to the stock suspension RS I drive right now.

Regarding the seats, I would highly recommend the GT2 bucket seats, the ones I installed in my RS. My wife didn't like the Recaro bucket seats in my 996 GT3, and she was ok with the stock Boxster and 996 GT3 seats. When I got the RS, she liked the stock seats a lot. When I bought the GT2 seats, she expected them to be bad, but she actually like them more than the stock RS seats.

The GT2 seats are more comfortable than the seats in the 335i and M3. With Recaro 996 GT3 seats, the seating position is too uptight, the 997 GT2 seat has better body weight distribution, it puts less weight on your lower bottom, and more behind your legs and your upper back. Feel free to try mine next time you're in town.

Get the Navi, ipod adapter and optional sound system. You can get discounts on ordered cars. The car is actually lighter than the 997 GT3, it has a better mid-range torque, and the 7500 rpm redline is not bad at all. I think a stock 2009 Carrera S with Sport-PASM and PDK should be running around the same lap times as a stock 996 GT3.

Sounds like a master plan. Go for it!! Stick with the regular seats. I hope you and your back are doing better!

Thanks Rad. I think I will take you up on that visit here pretty soon. I like the plan. I think youre right on the PCCBs too. If I am going to not go to the track as much as I had planned before my surgery, PCCBS would be a waste. I love those brakes though. I look forward to the GT2 buckets too.
I have become used to the 7000 Red line on the AMG so I dont think I will miss the 8400 Red line
(seeing that in print is much harder to read than saying it in my mind. I LOVED the 8400 Red line)
I almost HAVE to get the PDK given the press AND the fact its a MAJOR selling point with the wifey.

Thanks Chardonet for the well wishes on my back. I had my first PostOP on Tues and all was great!!

I am going to have to get the aerokit though I cant imagine a 911 with out a spoiler.

My driveway. My hanger (now car storage and wood shop thanks to my eye issue) is to the left. The concrete from the hanger door is 40 feet wide for 50 feet and then narrows to 14 feet out to the street. My house is off the picture to the right. It is a pie shaped lot so I had to place the hanger almost two hundred feet back from the street to ensure wing clearance from the house, thus having to buy far more concrete than I wanted.

I have to agree. I don't think the new C2S is going to be much different.

OG, you miss your GT3, and I am not at all surprised. But going with a new C2S is not a solution unless your back has gotten much better. If that is the case, then why not go back to a GT3; maybe the 997.2 GT3? Or, pick up a good used one for $90 - $100K.

For me the new S is way too close in price to the GT3 (so was the old one technically), and I do not like compromises!
