Default Need advice: GTR now, or M3 now and GT3 later?

I have a really big dilemma here. My favorite car has always been the Porsche 993 TT when I was younger (without money). Anyway, I've moved on and have decided to get a GT3 RS when it's available again. ~3 year time line.

so, my dilemma is as follows. I already have an SUV for a DD

A. Get a 2009 M3 coupe for fun now. Use it as an occasional fair weather D.D. and then get the new GT3 or RS when the time comes.

B. Get a GTR now for a good price (I have a pretty good deal). Then I wouldn't know if I would keep it after 1-2 years. This will all depend on potential reliability issues (currently there's talk about transmission problems).

With choice (A) I would probably keep the M3 as a daily driver and use the GT3(RS) for track days. With choice (B) I don't know. I tend to buy cars to keep unless they become potentially unreliable (E46 M3 was sold because of engine issues).

Thoughts? I need to decide by tonight. Due to pick up the GTR tomorrow and M3 has been waiting at the dealer for the past 2 weeks.

My 2 cents, I would only buy a GTR if I had no plans at all to take it to the track. Too much risk that the warranty will be voided when your tranny explodes (and guaranteed if you take the traction control off).

I would take the GTR out of the equation...

M3 Coupe (or even Sedan) would be my choice... be sure to negotiate a good deal on this one... I was looking around and cars with a few miles on it are selling at a great discount...

I just went through this. Had to sell my GT3 and was going to buy a BMW M3. but after 5 test drives
of the M3 just left me short after just one test drive in the AMG. The C63 is just a better car.

well my Radiologist;

I'd buy an M3 convert. not sure where you live but as a multi-purpose car it is tough to beat!

GTR's? Had one on order and passed when it came in after I sat in it and really thought about it.

As always, YMMV

I am considering a GT-R vs M3 for everyday as well. I am leaning towards the M3.

oh, I do like the M3 a lot. It's the perfect DD.

BUT, am I missing out on something that's great for only 15K more?

The M3 has crappy brakes Look at the AMG brakes. The GTR has a $20K fee to fix the tranny.
For 1900+car, you have an AMG with 550 hp. Simply amazing.
Its more than 15K more AND you NEED to test drive the AMG C63.
its just a better car
Here is a Drivers republic video saying the M3 is better but (he owns an M3 if the AMG had better springs AND a LSD he would buy the AMG (I have the car he is talking about WITH LSD and NO PP springs
The AMG is what you are going to miss

Don't listen to the GT-R haters...
Take the GTR, and just don't abuse at the track (The M3 brakes will be toast by the 2nd corner so it is the least track worthy of all M3s ever produced).

The M3 is a no-mans-land car nowadays. Neither the most powerful or better street car (Check the C63 for soundtrack!) and a disaster at the track.

Wait for the GT3 or RS and that will be your awesome track car, while you keep replacing the GTR with the newest and greatest every 2-3 years.

if you like the M3 then, take it. it's a great DD.
GTR probably not as useful as a DD imo.
but if you like to track, the GTR is very formidable (the gearbox may have some issues, but otherwise, it's a rocket)

i'd definitely go with choice A. since your goal is the GT3RS in a few years, i think the BMW maintenance and warranty would be a good choice for DD

Can you elaborate on the $1900 for 550hp?

GTR is much more of an experience than the M3. If you have a DD then you don't need the M3's practicality and comfort. GTR is much faster, harder and more unique/rare. It's a very special car that Porsche guys seem to hate.

I've driven both back-to-back and the GTR will blow you away but rides stiffer than even the last generation GT3 so not great for DD (although some are extreme enough to like this;-). M3 is fine but doesn't feel that quick. Beautiful build, style and much more comfortable.
