Default o.k. it's official: gt3 Mk2 will get carrera based DI engine

Todays german Auto, Motor & Sport Magazine reports that the facelifted GT3 and Turbo will get 3.6 DI engines on the same engine base as the Carreras.
This will end the era for the o.g. engineblock.

Could be that this means the current GT3 will be seen as the last hardcore car with the famed engine base and without driver aids (PSM).
Then again, the new engine will do its job I guess...

However, owning the current car I thought its good news.
Maybe this will turn out to be a point for 997 Mk1 cars for people that value character over pure performance. We will see...

While I think it's cool to have a block derived from the GT1, they can still build an incredible GT3 engine from a different (i.e., C2 DI block). They still have lots to play with in terms of cylinders, heads, pistons, etc.

I always thought the block was the least important part of an engine anyway. Seems like the crank, pistons, and top-end are much more important. But I could be wrong.

I don't think they have a choice, the 964 case is from 89. The new case is much stronger than the 1st 997 motor and lighter than the 964 case.

Doesn't the current GT3 have PSM, I thought the last GT3 that doesn't have drivers aids was the 996 GT3 mkII

Why the 3.6 when the Carrera S has a 3.8?
Also the price difference between a Carrera engine and the GT3 engine is huge. Will they also be dropping the the price on the new GT3 or will they just pocket the extra $$.

Very mixed feeling on this I have an '08 GT3 RS, (no PSM on the RS). I always intended to keep the car anyway, but I guess the next gen RS will be a different thing altogether...shame, that.

No, the GT3 does not have PSM. It does have rear drive wheel Traction Control, which can be switched off.

When's the last time you heard of a car company sharing in the cost savings?

Here's the website, but since I can't read German, I don't know if the article is listed.

Yup, that is why there wasn't a question mark on the end.

The MK II will cost more, not less.

How could anyone imagine otherwise?

And with the current Euro vs $, expect much more!

Speaking of which, I just received the Notice to Customer

They will cover "tracking" but not "racing"

I wonder what the criteria on the data logger is that differentiates?

Seems written to put you on notice from the get go. One even must sign the document at delivery (though I assume not in blood)
