If they race it, I'll take it.
One thing for sure, they need an homologation car for LeMans, unless they plan to quit (very likely). But, only if they decide to stay racing, we either are going to see a wet sump RSR, or we are going to see a small batch of ROW only 997 Mk2/998 Mk1 GT3 RSR street cars.

Doesn't the current GT3 have PSM, I thought the last GT3 that doesn't have drivers aids was the 996 GT3 mkII
Why the 3.6 when the Carrera S has a 3.8?
Also the price difference between a Carrera engine and the GT3 engine is huge. Will they also be dropping the the price on the new GT3 or will they just pocket the extra $$.

Todays german Auto, Motor & Sport Magazine reports that the facelifted GT3 and Turbo will get 3.6 DI engines on the same engine base as the Carreras.
This will end the era for the o.g. engineblock.
Could be that this means the current GT3 will be seen as the last hardcore car with the famed engine base and without driver aids (PSM).
Then again, the new engine will do its job I guess...
However, owning the current car I thought its good news.
Maybe this will turn out to be a point for 997 Mk1 cars for people that value character over pure performance. We will see...

Disclaimer: I am not here to start another wet sump vs dry sump debate nor do I think the current C2 3.6 or C2S 3.8 is inferior by any means. I am simply saying this doesn't make any sense given the GT1 block is what the 996/997 GT2/3 are all about...

guess we're on the same page. If the next gen gt3/rs doesn't appeal to me, I plan on keeping my RS indefinitely and either going after a 996GT3 to abuse on the track or a 997GT3 for mixed use (living in too many places and have to separate my cars)

The m96 is a race proven engine.
Dry sump versus wet sump. This is an old and tiring discussion.

Whilst I may be in denial about Porsche making such an unpopular decision, I also find it hard to believe that AMS or any other media form would know that sort of information for certain.
Until the release of the facelift, to my knowledge, there had never even been a mention of a new or redesigned engine platform for the current engine in the standard carrera range apart from the addition of DI....
