Default GT3 rear bumper (apron) ****

Ever wondered what's behind that gorgeous ***?

May be useful for 997s wishing to swap out to the GT3 rear. There's quite a bit of parts needed however and the conversion may not be worth the $$.

Enjoy.

nicely dismounted I like the masking tape... much appreciated touch there. One thing I really want to find/get is a Euro-bumper so we don't have the darned bumperettes

Interesting. Why did you take it out? Did you change the exhaust system? The side mufflers are huge! I got a Fabspeed exhaust system and can't wait to put it on.

so much for the bumper "outlets allowing for heat and air flow" theory...based on what I am seeing...they are for decorative purposes and thats it...

I was disappointed when I saw that too. There's no where the heat from the engine can escape through those vents because of all that heat shielding eventhough the brochure states so. 8(

Plus, the apron is so close to the heat shielding that there's no airflow to even draw heat out from the shielding.

I'm definitely leaning towards Sharkwerk's exhaust, but first I'm going to try to fabricate something myself with a local welder and see how that goes.

So that's what you're up to, huh?

Keep us posted. Very interested in the outcome.

David,
Nice work... then again you are not afraid to dismantle your car - rear seats, nice work BTW.

Was there any trick involve in taking the rear bumper off?

What did your significant other think of the parts in the dining room?

I'm really impressed of how Porsche designed and engineered their parts for ease of service. Removing the apron consisted of a bunch of torx screws. The trick is there's one screw hidden behind each tail light (which in itself very simple to remove. Two screws and make sure you slide the light towards the rear! Do not try to pry outwards to the sides!) and one behind each of the rear wheel right on the front edge of the apron. Afterwards, just simply pull the apron off. What's left is the heat shielding and the aluminum bumper. Again, very easy to remove.

Re the parts in the formal dining room She's used to it by now when I had my 930 engine all apart and parts everywhere.

What my design will be is a combination of GMG's and Sharkwerks' in that it will have a megaphone design whilst using the stock tips and cross over tube. The stock exhaust also have cross over tubes, so I'm sticking with the Porsche design. The outlet from the side mufflers are 2 1/2", but if you look behind the stock tip, the inlet is 3" and outlet is 2 1/2". Porsche tapered the outlet because of the double walled design.

The plate where the stock tip will bolt to will be cut using a water jet cutter and my pipes will of course have mandrel bends.

Worst case is to fall back on Sharkwerk's tried and true system. ;D

Hi Dan,

You have to remove the apron. If you want the euro look, you also would have to drill out the rivets from the aluminum bumper bracket.

So those bumper pads do actually serve a purpose! I thougth it was a solid piece of rubber w/o the aluminum brakcet.
