Re the door handles, do you mean the silver handle or the black trim piece? I would be very cautious on respraying any plastic interior silver trim pieces. I tried to respray the silver trim pieces on my steering wheel and it was a nightmare. It must use a specific type of plastic that doesn't take kindly to being painted. I must have redone it 5-6 times and never could get it 100%. I think silver the trim pieces will only run you $30-100 so those are worth just buying new and replacing.
The black piece around the handle is the one that needs resprayed. The silver looks brand new still.

I think its $67 but don't quote me. If so, I'd personally just buy it new. I fear that finish will be harder to match than the center console.

That being said...love to be proven wrong as I will need to redo mine at some point. They look pretty good now but I have a few scratches developing around the window switches.

For that cost it would make more sense to buy new ones. Then again I love to work on cars. Once I figure out how to remove that piece carefully I will post back how easy or miserable the repaint is to do.

Nice. Let me know how it goes.

Ps - If you need to remove the door panel I would recommend getting some spare clips beforehand. A few will break during removal. Make sure all the clips are reset or you will never get the panel back on tight. It took me a couple tries to get it right.

So I have been looking through the Katalog for awhile now and I cannot figure out which "Clips" I will need to buy that will break when I pull the door apart. Does anyone know what clips I will need to pick up? I am on vacation and am 15 minutes from a dealer, while at home I am 2 hours from the nearest dealer. I will be taking off the part the red arrow is pointing at to redo the paint when I do the center console. Thanks and Happy New Years.

Clips will break. Inevitable
They are universal though. Two day Prime shipping a dime a dozen when you need them.
Ecs tuning can help with part number if you need it.

IDoclouie - here is the part. Get 10 to have some for the next project.

I think have a write up on replacing the door latch which goes through how to remove/reattach the door panel. The key is to “reset” the clips. Look at a new one compared to one that came out of the door and you will know what i mean. Its imperitive you do this or the door panel won’t snap back in flush. I had to remove mine 3 times to get it right. It sucked.

As as far as resetting the clips. I have no idea what the right way is. I went cavemen and just used my teath. It’s like popping the top of a water bottle, but harder and less hygienic :-)

Good luck.

I will put a satin clear coat on to protect it. I am about ready to start spraying. Do I sand with 2000 grit between each of the 10 sprays?

I remember spraying my 993 wheels in my kitchen during the winter - my wife still gives me the evil look

LOL. Wife is at church. Should I sand between coats?

This is my next project. Mine isn’t too bad, and hasn’t gotten worse in the 10 years I’ve owned it, but only because I’ve treated it like eggshells.
I’m still deciding whether to go with the Home Depot homebrew Sand Beige I use for touchups, but have them thin it so I can use one of those refillable rattle can sprayers; or go satin black. I already swapped my sand beige steering wheel, shifter, ebrake, overhead console, headlight switch and ignition rosettes for black ones, plus black floormats, so I could go either way. Only thing is, the console is natively a beige plastic, so any future scratches would show through the black.

I'm gonna join this party. But I'm going to paint it to match the body, arctic silver metallic. As long as the paint store is open tomorrow, I should be able to get it done.
