Pretty sure Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W40 is NO LONGER on the Porsche A40 Approved Oil List. Someone needs to re-check. I think it came off the list mid-year 2015. At about the same time we started seeing many UOA reports here on Rennlist confirming the high temp shear breakdown of this specific Motul oil, much like the classic shear break-down of Mobil 0W40.

Not sure why everyone thinks this is such a great deal?
+2 year old oil.
No longer Porsche A40 approved.
When Motul did a formulation re-boot, oil started to exhibit high shear/high temp break down.

Miscibility:
All engine oils approved by Porsche can be mixed provided they are of the same Porsche oil
specification. This means that it is not necessary to flush the engine when the oil is changed if another
type of oil is used. However, since every brand of oil has a specially adapted unique composition, the same
brand and type of oil should be used for topping up between oil change intervals if possible.

Unless I'm missing something, I do not see Motul X-CESS listed in the list of approved oils. X-Clean, yes.

For 6 years, I've changed my oil every December (including 2015 with 2014 oil) and sent a sample to BlackStone. Every parameter is perfect, every time. They tell me I need to drive the car more. The additives have not worn out. Hope the formula has not changed.

Approval of X-cess expired in 2014. This explains why 2014 oil still shows good analysis. I'm guessing they didn't make the cut in 2015, hence not being on the newest revision of the approved oil list. If X-cess got dropped due to new Porsche standards, there should be no need to worry as long as the actual formulation from Motul didn't change. If X-cess got dropped because there was a change by Motul, then that's another story. See, the old expired oil WAS a good idea.

Can I be that guy and uh, ask what oil do I use now? I went away from mobile 1 ow40 because of the shear out of grade.

The oil Amazon sent me a few days ago was dated 2015 and said Porsche A40 on the front.

That's easy. Use Mobil 5W50. Porsche A40 approved. On sale at Napa a few times per year. Current sale (about $5.50) ends Sept 30th. See my extensive Blackstone UOAs thread on the 991 Forum.
