People who park right next to a car when there are a bunch of other open spots nearby are IMO rude. Or passive aggressive. Possibly clueless. Probably all three. Regardless of the car. If you want to check out a car, park with an open space in between. Or, park it in your usual spot and hoof it over to check out the car. If you're just parking close to be a wise guy/gal, then that's just being rude...T

Man, this is TX. You know that's going to happen here. Is it annoying? Sure. Not much you can do to prevent it 100%. Everything is big in TX, but parking spaces. Just "cuss" under your breath and break out. No need in causing a scene. I had someone park too close. When when backing out, he hit my car (not the 997, my BMW). I was pissed, but couldn't do anything but cuss and then get his (mother's car, was a teen) insurance info and file a claim.
It's annoying and going to happen again. Cooler heads prevail.

It is a somewhat common problem in America (and possibly elsewhere).
People drive big vehicles but refuse to master driving them well and thus parking them well. If you park it in a space its your job to stay between the lines... if you buy a big car, then you have more work to do, but that doesn't eliminate the responsibility.
That is compounded by the fact that parking lot design is apparently left to idiots or purposely farcical on 99% of lot designs. Live in an area with lots of larger vehicles and still they paint the strips and design the lanes for mostly compacts.
I mostly drive the old VW New Beetle to places like malls and movie theaters. If I come out and some moron has crossed the line so I cannot easily get in the drivers door (the only one that matters since others can just wait till I've pulled out of the space to get in, in a pinch).. .I do make it a point to solidly ding their doors with mine as I get in. Its surely lost on them, but does provide me with some stress relief.
Clarification Edit: I don't ding cars in general, just when the one next to me has parked particularly egregiously - that is - WELL over the line.
There is a social contract we have - follow the rules of the road and I will to. If someone is so self centered or incompetent to not be able to do the simple task of keeping their vehicle between the parking line, then I'm not feeling obligated to uphold me end of the social contract either. If its a small space but your not over the line, I'll contort to get in my car. If your past the paint and in my space, I'm not in any way caring about what happens to your vehicle as I contort my way into my car.

I put chalk in the car and write nice parking and show how they went over the line. I only do this if I feel aggressive, 99% of the time I just drive away. It is terrible how people park at malls etc to the point that I don;t want to take my Pcar to those places and just take the boring dd.

While this thread was an epic troll in its own right, it's interesting to watch the passive-aggressive bunch congratulate one another...
To the guy driving the Beetle who intentionally dings other doors: I can only hope that someday you'll do this to someone who's still in their car. If you can't see the difference between someone parking near your PASSENGER door vs. intentionally damaging someone else's property, a couple of percussive adjustments to your head are worth a try.
OP, I'm curious about the various reactions you were tempted by. What punishment did the truck driver deserve for daring park so close to your 911 that your child was inconvenienced as she climbed in?
The fact that you people have both the time and inclination to get out of the car with your chalk and squat down on the pavement to scribble a note to someone who definitely won't give a sh*t is amazing.

if it were me, i'd have my daughter put on my pair of golf shoes and climb all over the truck in an attempt to open the passenger door.

Ummm, I totally agree and as an outsider I can readily see that Trumpmania is alive and well!!
Hopefully no disrespect to anyone here. BTW, just in case my comment comes off as such, please note that residents of Puerto Rico can not vote for the President of the United States. So no preference or agenda here...

I think the only normal forum on RL is the 997 GT3 forum. All of those guys seem to 'get it'. I've only been here a couple years but there is so much more wackiness here than I expected. I suppose that maybe means we're all a lot more different than we think. Also a lot of people are whiny dicks.

Again- for the record I did nothing. I was pissed. I don't think under any scenario I would have done damage to his car. I was not tempted to do anything other than stick around for him if there had been a ding to address it with him (ask for his insurance). But here in TX you have to be careful who you provoke. People have guns.
