I had a look at it today. Car has front and rear bumper painted as well as side panels.

Thanks for the info. I guess that's why its 38 and not 45 like all the other 997.1 S and 4s out there. i'd probably just spend the 45 and get the car with no stories and the right options.

Also, sand beige standard leather is not very desirable IMO

why not buy the one over on the forums? He is asking 38 with a full 125K mile warranty. Looks like a really nice car too. Basalt black, 6mt
I know their reputation is very good, but they do seem high on just about every car they've got - trying to figure out why and if its worth it. I work about 10 miles from RAC so I'm just going to swing by in the next week or so, but it would be nice to know if there is something about these cars that justifies relatively higher prices than similar cars. Is RAC's reputation really so bullet-proof that its worth the extra $ to do business with them? I'm skeptical. But they do have some nice examples.
I went to see these in person on Thursday and they are both outstanding cars. The white one with 70k miles was especially impressive considering the mileage, impeccable inside and out. Both cars were clearly meticulously cared for.

still seems ridiculous. Not like a one owner PCA member's car would be any less well cared for. They are charging $5k above "pristine" condition pricing. Maybe hoping for clueless buyers?

Help me understand. If I were to respray my hood due to rock chips, would it devalue the car at least a few thousand?

I don't see how. If you do something to improve the looks or performance of your car, unless it is some real personal preference weirdness, it shouldn't devalue it. Now, compared to a pristine, low mileage, all-original, sure touch-ups might play into a lower value, but if corrective paintwork is done by a qualified shop it wouldn't bother me. I had my bumper cover and hood resprayed in preparation for XPEL. Don't see how that could reduce the value in a normal person's mind. These are cars, not museum pieces. They are meant to be driven and enjoyed.
I'd just be sure to get "before" photos and maybe make sure the invoice specifically says it's for rock chips, lest you're accused of covering up an accident or something.

This is how it SHOULD be, and is the correct, sane answer. Unfortunately, however, it is not actually how this works. From everything I've read, especially on RL, the second you touch paint, you ding your car's value. It's a bit silly and I don't agree with it, but that to me seems to be the overwhelming consensus.
