Except for perhaps a few on this board, the word rebuilt on a car like a 997, likely shrinks the market and/or negatively impacts price on a broader scale, especially on cabriolet. Might be nice to have a Coupe that one intends for track use, but the work rebuilt and replace in the broader more general market is negative world. We also have no idea who reliable any of these rebuilds will be on a broader scale over the long term or at year 5, year 10 and bey9ond.
You’re correct about the benefit of getting data on how these fare over the long run. I suspect LN and Raby have data on these rebuilt engines as they’ve been doing it for a while. So I suspect that is a “knowable” variable and I never opine or argue about things that can be settled with reasonably available data.
I don’t know but the idea that if something goes wrong w/ my 997.1 engine that I can get it rebuilt into a 4.0 is kind of comforting. If it happens then it’s not the end of the world and I might wind up with a car that I love even more than the one I have today. So do all the things I can do to avoid engine issues and if for some reason shut happens, it’s not the end of the world. Just need to have ~$20k or so stashed away in a purpose specific ETF and draw it down if the day comes. In the meantime I will drive the car and enjoy it.

This speed yellow 997.1 Targa on BAT is going to be a can't miss auction. It could set a new benchmark for this build. Stay tuned for a massive bidding war. The way these prices are going up it tempts me to sell my car and make a boat load of profit. But not going to happen at this point in time. We will see what the future holds.

What are people's thoughts on buying a 997.2 with over 60k miles? I would prefer low miles but with such low inventory I know I will have to compromise. What should I expect the price delta to be for the same optioned car with 60k miles, 40k miles and 20k miles? Is there a formula for mileage to asking price?
Thanks!
Thanks!

The 997.2 is a very reliable car provided that it's cared for and properly maintained.
If 997.2's were plentiful, some type of "formula" could exist I guess. That perhaps being an environment where sellers would have to take a more disciplined / studied approach to establishing pricing - an environment where buyers would have more control.
But that of course is not the situation.
