Living in SC, lots of times i chose or have to drive in rain. Or encounter it along the way. The thing I won't do is drive any of my cars if there is some likelihood of hail. I had a really nice first gen Turbo AWD Eclipse about 25 years ago, much modified, and moderate hail damage to it. Not like some cars get, where they are just pounded, but enough to notice, and hail cannot be fixed.
Several years ago, just after I had bought a slightly used, but perfect 997S Carrera, I was caught here in SC in a hail storm on an interstate. At first, the pea-sized ones, then bigger, just sounded awful, and as I saw an underpass coming up, with other cars pulling under it for cover, I thought that fate was telling me I just wasn't destined to have my first Porsche. But got to underpass, and a number of us crowded under cover, blocking all traffic, and as i sat watching the hail come down just outside my car's protection, knowing other cars were blocked from cover, and feeling sorry for them, reflected on what my car looked like.
It was a brief storm, and got home, and pulled into my garage, and all i could find was a very shallow dent in the sunroof, and had that taken out by a dent pro. No other damage.
When I watch the national weather news, and see the predictions for the midwest, and see "large hail" i note that the forecaster never says "small hail" or middle size hail" coming.
I really feel sorry when I see video clips of cars in hail storms.
So, I am very observant of the likelihood of hail when i plan any sort of trip away from home.
And all of our cars are shod with top rated tires for rain. Michelin Super Sports.
All the best....

This. Black car means dry weather and dry road driving only. Love the black look when it's clean. Hate having to clean it after even the slightest drizzle.
I find myself cleaning bugs off the windshield and front bumper 10X more often than cleaning water spots from rain.

My thoughts are that this post, "didn't want to drive the Ferrari in the rain so I drove the 911 instead", highlights why the Ninety-nine percent movement is so angry and why some politicians would love to tax us into income equality. As the fictional Sgt. Esterhaus (Michael Conrad, RIP) used to say, "Lets be careful out there."
I admire people that have a Ferrari and Porsche and hope to be at that level one day. This 99% and 1% is a bunch of bull****. There is only the 100%.
Some guy owns a Ferrari and a Porsche, sawwweeet, how can I achieve that? My answer is hard work not stealing through the IRS and taxation.
Maybe we should all be careful and disguise Rennlist as a Camry forum because this world is full of a bunch of over sensitive PC pu$$ies.

Yes. I live in North Alabama. We get about 55-58 inches of rain a year. In the warm months there are always pop up thunder showers. Almost impossible to not drive it in the rain.

Yes, I drive my cabriolet in the rain. It's so annoying to be forced to put the top up!

I got up and took a ride yesterday specifically because it was raining and cool. I've had too much of a good thing, as every weekend drive was perfectly sunny this year.
I wouldn't take a cruise knowing a severe t-storm with chance of hail was forecasted, but this was just a September rain.
With any car, my experience is that the sun is the #1 threat, followed by road salt. You could probably rank all the things that affect your car and require you to increase maintenance, but I'd be hard pressed to see how an occasional run in the rain matters at all. Strangely, it probably helps clean the under carriage.
Nevertheless, rain just isn't hurting anything. Road salt and de-icing chemicals? Sure, they require you to keep it protected and clean so these chemicals can't start eating things right away. Sun? Well, more UV finishing products and leather/vinyl protectants.
Avoiding rain because the car might be dirty? This I cannot fathom. I mean, to each his own, but a car looks best to me with some rubber and dirt behind the wheel wells, a few badges of honor on the front bumper (dead bugs, some wedged into crevices) and tires whose shoulders are ragged. And the leather seat should look like someone's *** has sat in it.
A run in the rain is a good thing. It's as good for the motoring soul as a blue sky Sunday.

It's because of threads like this and "Do you wash your 911 yourself or leave it to the professionals?" that everyone laughs at us.

So yesterday was going to be a car day for me. 200 mile run to the hamptons on the east end of Long Island. I was gong to take the Ferrari and had looked forward to that all week. I got about 15 min into the drive and it started to look like rain. Ferrari's don't do rain. So I returned to the garage and took the 911. Sure enough it poured I did not feel bad about having the 911 out in the rain. Thoughts?
