Default Do you drive your cars in the rain?

So yesterday was going to be a car day for me. 200 mile run to the hamptons on the east end of Long Island. I was gong to take the Ferrari and had looked forward to that all week. I got about 15 min into the drive and it started to look like rain. Ferrari's don't do rain. So I returned to the garage and took the 911. Sure enough it poured I did not feel bad about having the 911 out in the rain. Thoughts?

How old are your cars? If modern, with all the rust proofing, etc. - Why not drive it in the rain? I drive my 911 in the rain...T

I have a few friends that will drive their Porsche or Ferrari in the rain. I sell hell with that. Cars are made to drive rain or shine. Other than a hurricane, I drive my 911 all the time.

So you have a F355.... my buddy owned one..... at around 22K miles, he took the car in for something minor and walked out with a $14K+ repair bill and non of it was maintenance.... bad pumps, fuel injectors.... A single piece of 6" rubber tubing was $150 for the part.......

Anywho, I thought this was a spammy, joke question about driving in the rain... then I realized you owned a Ferrari and of course, through personal experience, i know that rain will devastate a Ferrari. So, I can understand your concern about the incredibly damaging effects of millions of weighty bombs hitting a car.

Yes, I drive in the rain, snow, through the NJ salt marshes in the sand (snow tires only). This does have a devastating effect.... it destroyed my sour attitude and now I smile all the time.

Peace

The rest of the world must laugh at us...just returned from a month in Germany, Russia and Czech Republic - high dollar cars everywhere and driven in all types of weather and roads.

Why are you even asking this? Of course you can drive it in the rain! You can drive it in the snow, too. Seriously, these are JUST CARS. You should treat them LIKE YOU WOULD ANY OTHER CAR. You can even drive roofless race cars in the rain so long as you're not trying to run racing slicks.

I have two 911s a 3.2l air cooled and a 997.2. I drive both in the rain. In fact I drive 220 miles on Friday night and most of it was in some serious rain. I was in the 86 Targa and was happily surprised that I had no leaks. Like someone pointed out earlier, in Germany Porsche's are driven in all weather conditions. They are designed for it.

My thoughts . . . Unless proven otherwise, I am going to assume that you are a good, decent and modest person; thankful for the advantages that you have in that you can own a Porsche and Ferrari and drive out to the Hamptons. But here's the thing, I think sometimes when we write things those good character traits get lost and you don't come across as the good person I'd like to think you are. My thoughts are that this post, "didn't want to drive the Ferrari in the rain so I drove the 911 instead", highlights why the Ninety-nine percent movement is so angry and why some politicians would love to tax us into income equality. As the fictional Sgt. Esterhaus (Michael Conrad, RIP) used to say, "Lets be careful out there."

No you shouldn't drive it in the rain. It's a well known fact that they melt.

Seriously.........
