A lot to comment on here...

My thoughts are that this post, "didn't want to drive the Ferrari in the rain so I drove the 911 instead", highlights why the Ninety-nine percent movement is so angry and why some politicians would love to tax us into income equality. As the fictional Sgt. Esterhaus (Michael Conrad, RIP) used to say, "Lets be careful out there."
Hard to deny... I'm not "wealthy" by any modern interpretation. At all. But I worked hard and have been privileged to be able to buy a few cars over time. I'm on my second Porsche, and had a Ferrari at one point... Didn't make me "better" than anyone else (and I do NOT believe that is what the OP was suggesting), but for example I NEVER drove the Ferrari to work (and I'm not driving the 997 either) and try not to talk about them in this fashion... People can really take it the wrong way, and while it may be true that old saying "who gives a **** about what people think", I don't need the aggravation.

Hate to admit this, but, yeah... It's just a time thing. I don't mind a little dirt, it is just a car after all, but it's a question of best use of available, very little, precious weekend time. I'd rather spend it driving, not cleaning.

Maybe we should all be careful and disguise Rennlist as a Camry forum because this world is full of a bunch of over sensitive PC pu$$ies.
Don't think anyone said he couldn't ask the question. One person just (politely, i might add), made the observation that the question can be taken in a way the OP likely did not intend.

BTW, you in Austin? My old home town...

With any car, my experience is that the sun is the #1 threat, followed by road salt. You could probably rank all the things that affect your car and require you to increase maintenance, but I'd be hard pressed to see how an occasional run in the rain matters at all.
Right. Common sense. Little rain, no biggie. Full blown thunderstorm, take another car. BTW, Philster, I work in Philly and live across the bridge in south Jersey. Looking for some laid back Porsche folks for the occasional fair-weather (ha!) drive, cup of coffee etc. Not racing. Just driving. Let me know if you do that kind of thing.

Sure you are! It is now $250K a year! So says the current administration going back to when they were running for election. You are rich!

If government keeps changing rich, I am going to be filthy rich shortly. Then I can afford anything!

Peace

I thought OP was going to finish with "so we took the helicopter instead." You drove a 911 to the Hamptons? The neighbors must be terrified that 98 - or even 97 - percenters are taking over the neighborhood.

Today: A 911 instead of a Ferrari. Tomorrow, what? Primer-gray '76 Camaro? A two-tone Cutlass? Where does the madness stop?

If you REALLY get desperate, I'll make you a great deal on a 996.

Sorry, don't mean to derail the thread, but nice color 997 you have there! I'm in SoCal also (OC) and I've never seen another green 911 around. What color is your interior? Mine is Sand Beige. If you are in OC, do you ever attend C&C?

My 911 is my rain car. I ride the Harley on Sunny and warm days. You only live once I say enjoy the ride.

I got caught in heavy rain on the highway, the rear of the car twitches a bit I think due to the wide rubber hydroplaning. Certainly gets your attention.

Was thinking this myself.

I really enjoyed this thread. I started it tongue in cheek. I work very hard and am not embarrassed by the toys I have amassed. Toys are how I reward myself for my hard work. I must say I love toys and cannot get enough of them. IMHO they beat the hell out of my wife's toys. Pocket books, shoes and jewelry. My wife takes them all out regardless of the weather, rain or shine. WTF they don't burn gas and you cannot ride in or on them. I do not flaunt my toys unless i am sharing my passion with friends sharing the same passions. I talk and share motorcycles with friends that ride, boats with friends that boat and cars with car guys. I think it is humorous that ferrari guys for the most part, including me, will not drive them in the rain. Mine is black and cleaning it is a major pain in the butt. I have a couple of 911s. Nothing fancy. A 1999 c2 cab with 14000 miles and a 2007 c2 cab with 27000. I don't mind driving the 997 in the rain as it is a somewhat more used car. The 996 I do not take out in the rain mostly because it has lead a garage queen life and I just feel more comfortable letting it continue living that life. The 997 does not leak and I would not expect it too, being a 92000$ car. I did have a car devastated by hail. 4000$ repair bill and I was lucky. Others had shattered windshields and sunroofs in addition to dents.

rain, sleet, and snow.... but not when the salt is down. I hate that white crap on the car so i garage it for the Canadian Winter.
These cars are good in any weather!

1986/7 through 1998. Elementary through UT Austin (class of '98). Was down there not too long ago... used to visit more frequently (couple times a year) but my folks have recently moved up here to be closer to me and their grandchildren...

Though i wasn't born there, I will always consider Austin "home" in a way. I love that place... (But it certainly is changing, isn't it...)

I wouldn't return to base if it started to rain... but I would leave the 997 in the garage if it was raining before heading out.

Default Rain?

The only reason I wouldn't consider driving in the rain would be if I didn't have windshield wipers! On the other hand, driving at speed would flow most of it over the roof and still bring a smile.

Too scarred to drive your car in the rain? Ferrari, or 911, or any other car?
Get an XBox. Perfect weather there.
