This! My Porsche is a 5th car in the stable and used just for pleasure drives in nice weather. I took a drive to the Jersey Shore last Friday for a day trip and got a nasty stone chip on the windshield and a flash rain storm on the way home. It took me 6+ hours to wash and detail the car in every nook and cranny to bring her back to show condition as I like. I took it to a shop today that specializes in small dents and windshield repairs. He did a nice job but couldn't get all of it to vanish. Looks like a new windshield when I get the chance.

First time the car has been driven in the rain. I know I'm OCD but I cope the best I can.

For stone chips I got the advice once to always have transparent tape in the car. Tape the chip area immediately. If not - dirty rain water wil penetrate and leave residue that cannot be removed with glass repair. I know because once I had a similar situation and after repair it left a sligt blur in the screen where the resin penetrated. The mechanic gave me small "coin sized" transparent markers to put on immediately if a stone chip wutld occur.

At least that's what I tell myself. The dents and scratches help; it actually looks worse when clean.
+1.

It's raining today in SoCal. Taking my daily driver 997 to drop off the kids at school and then off to work. Yeah, it will get a little dirty, but I can clean it.

That's a good tip, thanks. The windshield chip repair is decent but still visible. I'll have to replace the windshield but concerned about possible water leaks afterwards. Is it best to have the Porsche dealer do the replacement or another service that just does windshields? I had the Chevy dealer replace one on my Tahoe and they did a great job.

Yes, I drive my car in the rain. I just roll the windows up and make sure the sunroof is closed.

Funny thing is I actually test drove my 997s in the rain. Being new to the car it felt great and stable. This is my first rear wheel drive car with traction control which is pretty cool. In the past with my Rx7 turbo's it was my responsibility not to kill myself when loss of traction happens on a rainy twisty road LOL

German cars are pretty tough, the only reason I don't drive mine in the rain now is because we have Moonson's out here in AZ. All kinds of sand and Debris flying through the air and natives that drive 10 MPH when it drizzles and brake like idiots causing accidents.

Hook'em!

(and yeah, Mopac is a disaster these days).

If ya ever wanna meet up, head south and follow my lead through Maryland and Chester County, PA. I actually live around some very good NJ roads, but nothing around here can hold a candle to PA roads, and some of those roads have great little taverns, and you'll see Porsches of various and interesting vintages and old Ferraris on the side of the road waiting for a good run, or all parked up at a tavern, especially if there is a good golf tourney or other sporting event on.

Hit me up on PM (I'm posting this for any other Philly area people, too.)

Maryland, in/around the Chesapeake, offers a nice option, too. Run through PA, shoot down to MD and have a drink at a dockside bar. Good times.

Cheers,

Phil
Sounds great! Will PM you.

I had mine replaced on the -06 C4S. The dealer told me to go to Safelite https://www.safelite.com/ so that's what I did. Excellent work and they said they had done plenty of 997's. I think that's important to confirm. The guy who did mine said every car is different with the 997 falling somewhere in the middle in terms of difficulty. Older 300Zx's are the worst according to him.

I just replaced my windscreen at Porsche Center in Warsaw. Fantastic work including the rubber seals. Looks like it came from factory. I uploaded som pics in another thread called "cracked windscreen" if I remember right. I would not dare to do it elsewhere unless I had very good references. I read in the other thread that some have missed the antenna connectors and anotherone lost the GPS from what I read. Dont really understand the GPS but it apparently happened after the new screen install.

What a coincidence. Last weekend I was taking my Maybach to the Casino de Monte Carlo and I thought I saw what might be a cloud. So, I told my driver to turn around and head back to the compound. When we got there, I fired my chauffer for endangering my paint and I swapped into my LaFerrari--which of course, is my mudder. I'm glad there's someone out there who thinks like I do. I would have driven my Porsche but that's Jose, my gardener's car. He had taken it to get more Perrier to water the roses.

I kid, I kid. Actually, I will avoid driving my 997 in the rain if it's clean--but I am that way about all of my cars. If it's dirty, I don't care. It's my DD anyway.

I even drove my Porsche in the last snow/ice storm we had last winter. That's how I realized that I didn't have a limited slip differential (which I think is atrocious for such a high-end sports car). I made it all the way home and then got stuck in the driveway when the car's drive wheel sideslipped off of the pavement and into the grass.

Mine drive better when they get a bit dirty.
