If you vote yes I want proof. I was trying to do this for newbies that don't understand that there was a change in the bearing in 06. I guess it could still happen. Mr Raby said all the failures he had heard of was during track use.

I don't need another poll to tell me what I already know. Jake Raby confirms what my own research led me to believe years ago.
This is good enough for me!

No need to do anything to the M97 IMSB equipped cars. I see more engine failures than anyone in this country, and maybe the world. To date we have seen less than 1/2 dozen M97 IMSB failures.
The jury was out on these for several years, and the larger bearing has proven to carry the loads much better than the earlier, M96 diameter bearing.
Use a quality oil, and service the engine every 5K miles/ 6 months and you won't have any issues.

The change actually happened in late 2005 ( I have 2 of these larger bearing '05 cars) so as convenient as it would be to exclude all 2005s, it's not accurate to do so.

FWIW...
07 997 C2S, daily driver, no track time, 1 quart oil per 3K miles, ~75,000 miles IMS failure, engine rattle prior to failure. Traded car in for 2010 997 GTS.

3or so weeks so a friend of mine with a 07 Carrera S IMS failed and engine and block is beyond repair. He use to post on here sometimes but it's been awhile. He changed oil a lot, looked at filter for tell tail signs...nothing...then Boom one day.

Talk to real mechanics, they see engines failures all the time. I've seen enough for myself to never buy a m96 or m97 engine'd Porsche ever again. IMS was really not the problem here and it wasn't a real big problem with the m96, it's always been blown out of proportion. It's the scored cylinders, broken rods, skipped chains that cause many of the failures but yes If dozens of little steel ***** start flying around in the engine while its running, say bye bye.

It's the driver. Some people get a 911 and treat it well others get one and think they're Michael Schumacher - track days, burnouts, doughnuts...etc.
These are not track cars. I would never bring a Carrera S to the track, never have, never will. 76,000 miles on original engine here for my daily driver.

Take it easy on the OP, guys. From his posts it appears that he's looking to buy a 997.1. Based on all of the information out there, it would be natural to wonder if there have been any IMS failures with the larger bearing cars.
If I was doing research on the '06-'08 cars, I'd wonder that myself.

The problem is that everyone wants a perfect car........NEWS FLASH there is not a perfect car period, every car has some sort of issue or defect that has to get worked out as the model run progresses the only difference here is that Rennlist has somehow managed to gather the most paranoid and whining Porsche owners of the world I mean seriously if you are so concerned with reliable transportation use your legs and hope that you don't twist or break an ankle, I heard extended warranties for those aren't being sold through fidelity anymore.

Ridiculous poll, and the ZILLIONTH time someone else AGAIN asks the SAME QUESTION! Jeez...
06+ IMS is NOT a problem, has NEVER been... get OVER IT!
The 06+ engines may develop OTHER issues, only IF TRACKED heavily, but NOT IMS... can we make this sticky already???

I have seen the sticky at the top of the 997 forum relating to IMS failures in 997 cars. But I see that a number of the people that said theirs failed were 2005 cars. I was going to start a poll to see who in a 2006-2008 997.1 cars have had a confirmed failure of their engine due to IMS failure. It seems from reading it is very rare but I thought the above poll could use this one also.
I know it seems we are beating a dead horse but for those looking to buy it is hard to read through 49 pages of people that don't give details of what happened or several I see only have 1 or 2 posts.

Let's see if it does. IMS is NOT AN ISSUE in 06-08, PERIOD! 06-08 may have other engine issues ON TRACK, BEFORE IMS could ever become a problem. So, if you are planning to make a track-car out of 06-08 car, and track 20 days a year or more, then it's probably no the best platform (yet many do it)... otherwise for street, a few DE days a year, it's absolutely the most reliable car I've ever owned.
