By the way, between all the extended warranties I've bought, I'm way ahead. Much of it thanks to the PDK failure but others have paid for themselves except for the -06 C4S where I came up slightly short as I recall it.

I'm pulling the trigger today. 07 C4S with 28,500 miles. 3 year 36K platinum warranty for $3200. Piece of mind regarding any possible bore scoring or IMS issues was worth it for me.

Yup....got a 3 year platinum policy for my 2011 GTS. Had about 56,000 miles on it when I bought it and I think I paid $5,200. Main reason I bought it is the PDK. Had a PDK failure on my -09 C4S which cost $14,000 but was covered by extended warranty. As I've said many times before, the PDK is an amazing transmission but I think the weak link is all the electronics involved in it. When they fail it almost always seems to be due to electronic components which is troubling to me. Unlike mechanical components which rarely fail if you take good care of them, no matter to which degree you baby your PDK car, an electronic glitch over which you have no control can cost you $14K.

I guess if I had a PDK failure, I would be more inclined to buy an extended warranty. But, PDK failures are rare and good used replacements can be found. I don't know how you managed to get the platinum policy for $5200 when I was quoted $11K with less mileage. I sure wish somebody offered an extended warranty for 2 - 3 years at 3k - 4k miles per year.

I posted in this thread about one year ago. I got the fidelity platinum warranty for 2 years and it cost $3000.
It has paid out $12000 in repairs so far.

As for how rare PDK failures are, we'll never know. Porsche never shares statistics on anything negative. IMS failures come to mind and they seem to treat PDK failures the same way. When mine failed on the -09 I asked my service advisor how long the car would be in the shop. He said 2-3 days. I had expected 2-3 weeks or longer. He said Porsche keeps about 40 PDK replacement units in a warehouse in Atlanta at any given time so they would just truck one down to Florida overnight. To each their own what to read into this.

My 7 year/ 70K Platinum warranty expired last week. Cost was $2300. Had $1200 in claims for dealer installed replacement tire pressure monitors. If I did not have the warranty, I would have had a tire shop do it for under $300. It was not a great bet but peace of mind was important to me. 7 years went by quickly.

I was off by about $600. Actual cost was $5,886 for a 3 year, 36,000 mile Platinum policy with 54,800 miles on the car. Copy of the policy attached. Who quoted you $11K with less mileage? Sounds absurd.

Same guy I bought my policy from so I can't explain why your quote was twice as high as mine with you having lower miles. Your car is two years older than mine but again....with lower miles. Doubling the price for a car 2 years older seems drastic. Something's not adding up.
