Spent the last two days coming back to this thread, reading it from the beginning. Sad to see some of the earlier videos -- especially the early fire-up videos -- are gone now, but what a great thread this has been.

I just bought a one-owner 2006 C4S Cab with 107k mi and had some work to do on it, including replacing both front axles and the broken oil-filler hose. The oil-filler hose was a colossal pain -- a stupid design with foreseeable problems that could have been mitigated easily by making the hose two pieces. I'm sure it's a little bit easier to change when the engine's out, but at least we didn't end up with the wrong (X51) part to start with.

You mentioned you had some concerns with the paint, but I'm not sure how you ended up resolving them. Are you all set with the paint now or are there still issues outstanding?

The paint is ok. However not concourse quality. I took the car to the porsche parade and everyone loved the paint job. However I will have the top channels corrected. I just put the new steering wheel on. I am going to put the sport seats in by end of the year. Looking for cocoa leather right now.

Default Sourcing parts for unusual interior colors

I've got slate grey in mine, which is probably almost as rare as the cocoa color, so I'm having a devil of a time sourcing interior parts. I need a driver's side door panel to replace a broken speaker grille, and I'd like to find a few other parts. I'd be interested to know where you're sourcing used parts, particularly if you have any success.

Mel at specialized german in Sacramento history s of parts. I got many parts from him. I'll keep on the lookout for a slate grey door card.

I went back to my Indie and he said the Multi-function was already turned on. He said that the steering wheel and the airbag may not be compatible.

old 997.1 sport steering wheel horn connector. Notice it has a thin band that goes around the airbag.

The new airbag doesn't have this kind of connector. IT's a metal connector. Could this be why the horn doesn't work??

I am stumped on this one. I don't remember what year the airbag is. I did see somewhere on the forum that the 2011 airbag is what is needed. I think my airbag may be 2010 or 2011. Anyone have the working conversion and can tell me what the airbag and steering wheel part numbers are? I may have to buy a new wheel and airbag

Hi RL. On my way back from the Porsche Parade, I heard something fall as I was driving. The road was really bumpy. It was this piece that is on the dome light section of the car. I tried to clip it back in but one side has a broken clip. Very tiny clip. Anyone know the part number for this? I tried to enter the number on the item but can't get anything to come up. Do I need to replace the whole dome piece just for this (hope not). It's amazing that it just fell down as I was driving.

Here is the rubber cover removed. To the right side by the (I guess that is the part number) is where the edge clip piece (it's very tiny) broke off and now I need a replacement<br/>

Here is the underside with the rubber cover

This is one of the switches on the dome light area of my 2006 C2S. It fell off on my way back from the Porsche Parade.

Today was kinda a good day and a bad day. I was doing autocross at one of our meets in Zone 8. Was my first time so before I headed out to the event I checked my oil. It showed full. Well I didn't trust my instrument and put in 1.5 quarts more to top off. This was my first autocross and I had an instructor in the car. first time around was good and exciting did about 70 seconds. The second time around was event better, did about 61.0 seconds. The third time around did quite good did about 53.0 seconds! The fourth time around the instructor took the wheel to show me some technic. About halfway through the course the car started throwing white smoke bigly. Car was immediately shut off and pushed off to the side of the course. There was no leaking or anything on the ground (fluids, metal etc). The gauges for coolant was steady at 175, oil pressure right at 200 and oil level was full. There were several shop techs from the local area. The GMG tech said that it looked like oil was coming through the exhaust. I advised him I had topped up the oil. He said that all the sloshing around could have caused oil to move around via the intake or it could be AOS. So I let the car cool down a bit. Didn't get to finish my runs. After about an hour the car started up fine, no sounds of pistons or broken rods etc. The smoke was much less and before I left had stopped. On my way home there was a bit of smoke but when I got on the freeway there was no smoke. One tech advised me to not have a full oil when doing autocross. Just a bit short of full is ok. Car made it home with no incident. I will get the oil changed (just drove over 3400 miles from Porsche Parade) this week and have car checked when in. Think I may have dodged a bullet this time.

It was full and you still added 1.5 qts - you've been around here long enough to know a line down is better than overfull and that you should only add small quantities, like 0.25 qts) at a time. I doubt the AOS survived this, but maybe and if you've burned off an extra 1.5 qts, your plugs are also probably fouled and should also be changed.

Fingers crossed for you though.

Default Car Horn Not working

I have the same problem as Ocmacman. Horn stopped working and narrowed it down to the broken flat two-wire black connector part number 601719300B. It is also shown in Ocmacman's picture of the back of the airbag unit. My model is a 2005 997.1 S. Unfortunately couldn't find it being sold as a separate part at Pelican Parts. I was told by the Porsche dealer that I would have to replace the entire airbag unit which would cost $2000 and upwards. Has anyone found a "cheaper" solution to this?

Switzer Mountain in Spokane Porsche Parade this year. Car performed beautifully.

Here is a pix of me and the car at the Porsche Parade this year. The car did very well on the 3300 mile round trip. Not a hiccup at all. I have an article about my trip in the Pando Magazine (this is the magazine that won Best Chapter Magazine this year and it's from my club region). Check it out online.

Default 997 S Project Recent pixs

Here are some pics from a recent wash. I was at work so went up to the top of the parking garage and took a couple of photos.
Car has been doing great on the Autocross circuit. Hasn't blown up yet.

You may have sorted it by now, but the button from the dome light area is one of the Homelink garage door opener buttons. I searched Pelican for it and couldn't find the part, but the dealer almost certainly can find it for you.
