Does anyone know the part number for the brake line from the soft line to the caliper on the 2006 997 S ? I think I need to order the left and right side as the ones I have don't connect up and are way off. I got them with the car when I bought it.

Ok, so I ordered new brake lines from the soft line to the Caliper and they came in. I will put them on tomorrow. They look like they should be a direct fit. The old ones were bent somehow. I bled the brakes and that went great. No rust in the lines and no bubbles. I think I have taken care of all the ancillaries. Now the engine, tranny, ECU and someone to put it all together. My club has it's concourse in a few weeks. I probably won't be ready but definitely next year. Oh, exhaust is in my eyesight now. Any tranny's (no jokes here please) out there let me know.

Default 997 S Project Update Pix

Well, the project is coming along. I think I have most all the ancillaries and bits and such. I do have the headlights, just haven't put them on but did test and they work great. Now I need an engine and tip tranny. Saw a tranny on ebay for about 2k, looked a bit rusted but maybe that is just cosmetic. Engine, I have a few I am looking into. A rebuilt 3.8L engine from London or a 3.6L with 65k miles locally. The 3.6L is a manual and my car is a Tip. Not sure if that matters much but have to investigate. My engine budget has changed too. More like 10k-12k now rather than the 15K (had some emergencies over the last 2 months). I really enjoyed doing the brakes on the car.

So I am almost ready to put the M5 up for sale, really hesitant but I think it needs a good home. Maybe some younger guy who wants to drive her more than I do. Well here are some updated pixs.

Franken Porsche for now.

I am going to put the headlights on this weekend

Anyone know how to clean this metal plate on the door sill? I image it would clean up nice and shiny if done the right way.

Default cleaning the metal door plate

These plates are brushed finish OEM. Problem is the logo letters are not happy to be cleaned, or brushed over... they lose the sharpness. If you carefully avoid the logo, use a new industrial Scotch Brite pad. You can find them at Harbor Freight in a pack of 12, measuring approximately 6x8". Remove all obvious scratches using single strokes of the pad, from front to rear. No swirls, no back and forth movements. When all scratches and damage are removed, work to match the brushed finished with the remainder of the plate, around the logo letters. Slow work, straight single strokes. Too much pressure will mark the surface beyond matching. When all looks good, and matches, go over the entire surface a couple of times, over the logo letters, then quit. A final coat of Stainless steel cleaner/oil from the restaurant or janitorial supply, will give you a new factory look.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I have a full on international search for an engine. I see some good stuff out here in Cali and also some interesting items in London England. Anyone seen this add on craigslist in UK: http://london.craigslist.co.uk/ptd/5702052354.html

Or maybe this one: http://london.craigslist.co.uk/pts/5638533616.html

The 3.8L is really what I am after as my project is a 997.1 S. With the pound taking a hit right now due to Brexit this may be a good buy. I know many cars and engines are shipped overseas. Seems like a good deal, what do you think?

Wow...that's an awesome project. I know the feeling of what you are going through. Not anything like a Porsche, but building a car from where it started is no fun task...and you are doing it with limited experience with the car. I give you a lot of credit for tackling something that seems rather daunting...great work and keep it up!

HI RL followers. The project is coming along. I am ready for the engine. I have been looking in Europe and all over. Had a good line on an S engine for about 7k US but was sold quickly. Has anyone any idea if this X51 3.6 will go into the project car??

You'd probably be better off with spending a few more $k and get this:

I have a C2S car. I wonder if the PASm will work with this engine and the Sport button?!?

Hmmmm...I'm still relatively new to Porsche, but I think that the suspension controls would be independent of the engine. That being said, I forgot that you have an S...the 3.8 is what I'd be looking for as well...

Thanks. The computers for the S cars have different programming. I am almost ready to do the engine. Have a line on a few. Some say to go with the 3.6 as it is only a few HP (actually 30HP difference). I need to call a builder as I'll probably have a motor in a few weeks.
